Remington 870 Safety

Not with the factory saftey AFAIK. It's notched for the detent and trigger. Reversing it would mess that up..

You need to buy a left hand trigger plate. Basicly that is what remington calls the trigger mech.

That is the part you need, now finding one is another story. I have been looking for over a year. I called remington and they knew what it was but would not ship to Canada. they said I had to order form a Canadian dealer and gave me some numbers. After calling all of them and getting the same answer, no such part, I am still look for a dealer who can get me one.

Hope that helps.

You can plug the detent hole and re-drill it offset to the opposite side. I have done this before (I"m a lefty).....works fine....cheaper than buying another mech too....

I shoot left as well. My only concern would be a right handed shooter using my shotgun and thinking it was on safe when it actually wasn't.

As a lefty myself, I've just trained to take the safety off as I mount the gun on my shoulder. A quick flick of the thumb works like a charm.

Makes it easier to borrow a gun if you ever need to, and you don't have to retrain anyone borrowing yours.

Hhmm I might just leave my safety as it is then. Better to be safe than forget about telling someone about the reversed safety and something happening.

.... One worthwhile "improvement" is to add an oversized safety button. Had it on all my 870s. Cheap and easy to add.... David K.

I didn't like the one I tried, it was too big and rubbed against the outside of my trigger finger when shooting right hand.

I am an ambi shooter but prefer shooting LH, like most I have adapted to the RH safety.

Cheers

Ike, try a ScattergunTech large head safety. This one is circumferentially bigger and flat, as opposed to the VangComp dome style you might have tried.

It was more like the Wilson Jumbo Head safety from the early 90s. The edges were stepped and sharp which I didn't like.
Actually I don't have desire for a larger button, it happened to be on a gun I was looking to buy. I am happy with the standard button and don't have any trouble finding it when I need to use it. :)
Cheers

Thanks I never even thought of that:redface:

And for a righty using my gun I will let them know. A regular one doesn't work for me because when I bring the gun up and put my finger in the trigger gaurd the button gets put on safe. Which is really a pain.
