We pretty much know about the 50 BMG ban, but get a load of this:

Colt Python illegal in kalifornia?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the real deal.

The Colt Python, CANNOT be sold new or used in California, EXCEPT under the following conditions.

(1) You must be an active member of a law enforcement agency. This can be Local, County, State or Federal.

(2) A private party sale is allowed so long as both parties AND the firearm are residents of California (no shipping into the state)

(3) A pawn shop that has the firearm WHICH WAS PAWNED and NOT redeem by the person who pawned it.

Other then that, NO SALE. California requires that any handgun allowed for sale within the State must first be submitted to the State for a safety drop test. Since Colt has not made the Python available to the State for the drop test, it is not on the approved list of firearms for sale in California.

Draconian rules or WHAT?

Interesting info, but who cares about California? We've got our own stupid gun laws to worry about.

We should all care. Legislation that can be passed successfully in other jurisdictions can be tried here. The Wendies are paying attention!

While we do not expect laws which prohibit law-abiding citizens from owning guns to make sense, this one sounds particularly goofy. Does anyone one know what it is about the Python that the hoplophobes took aim at? A Python doesn't seem to be much different than any other medium frame .357.

.

And look at the histoical "trends" the California often sets as the standard for the rest of North America.
For example enviromental laws and automotive industry standards.

Let me state this now, I am not a tinfoilhatter, by nature.
Alot of us CGNs, are well aware of the Assault Weapon ban, and the 50 BMG ban, is alive and well in the Sunshine State unfortuneately.
I do believe most of us are not fully aware of the depth of fooloish laws there. I know I am not. And try to keep these facts in the back of our minds, when the antis try to befuddle us with thier "facts."

Used to spend a month every year around the Bay area of Kalifornia. I see it's progressively digressed in the 20 odd years since I was doing that regularly.... sad really...

Mtlbomber, I would agree with you except for these reasons, You cannot tell me that even in our out of production, a FFL dealer with access to say a surplused police lot of Pyhtons from the Florida Highway Patrol, with guarennted sales in the state of kalifornia, could not provide one serviceable sample for tests even to the point of destruction, for the purposes of approving sales in, let's say the city of San Francisco.

Or a police confiscated Python from the streets, yes somewhere even in kalifornia, during the commission of a violent felony crime, could be inspected for safety, then transferred, for the soul purpose of legal testing.

I am sure there could be other lawful options here, but I suspect this is just a stone wall, that was never meant to be breached in the state courts.

Cheers....

I've lived in California and would never choose to again but if anything Canada tends to be even more radically leftist, if less innovative about it.

Not to speak for Mtlbomber but he isn't saying he agrees with the legislation, just offering a reason why Colt hasn't sent a test sample. I think Colt likely has more Pythons stored than anyone imagines and they simply aren't interested in participating in California's BS. Next I think the drop test must be done with a factory supplied sample so it is a "control" test and the firearm hasn't been tampered with by a third party which could affect the test results. Also I believe the legislation is State and nothing to do with the City of San Francisco.

I'd say it's obviously not important enough to dealers in Cali to furnish the JD with a gun to test, otherwise they'd have done it. And they sell more handguns every year in Cali than all of Canada.

California is known as "Granola land" full of nuts, fruits, and flakes.

Unfortunately a lot of good peopole live there too but their votes are cancelled by places like L.A., San Francisco, and the other big cities.

Someone from California on another forum had this to say:

"We have a state-approved list of acceptable firearms that can be imported. To get on the list, the manufacturer must submit multiple copies of each make (and finish!!!) to the state for a loaded drop-test. CA charges some ridiculous fee for this, and it must be renewed almost annually. The bottom line: Companies don't feel like spending an extra $30K annually (and up) to keep a non-production model on the approved import list. So, if you want to buy a 27-2, or even something much more common, you have to find a CA resident who owns one that was grandfathered in, and then buy it in a private-party-transfer (about 45 minutes of paperwork).

It may get worse before it gets better for our crazy state. Governor Ah-nold caved in a few months ago and signed a law requiring all imported handguns to feature a microstamping technology that imprints a gun-specific stamp on each spent cartridge. Let's set aside for a second that the law is not only unfeasible but ridiculous in application - the bottom line is that unless the NRA gets this one overturned in the courts, you aren't going to be importing ANY handguns to California after 2010 because I don't think any company is going to implement this requirement, not even for the big money pool of the CA gun market".

I know it's bad here but I find myself humming "Oh Canada" tonight as I look at my Python and a bunch of others that CA residents can't own.

STI has already pulled the plug...

Thats EXACTLY what them dems want to happen.... They make it SO HARD to sell guns in the state, that the gun makers will eventually stop selling to the market :(

Too bad STI didn't pull a "Barret" and start pumping out recievers and selling them, so they could be registered and sold before the .50 ban (or in STI's case the Microstamping) happened.

The microstamping is totally useless. All thats gonna happen, is either a dramatic increase in revolver use in crime, or, people are gonna take files, and get rid of the micro-stamps.

I truely cant see ANY company going along with the micro stamping.... Mabey a company like Glock will... either make a small shop in commie fornia to modify the parts to their standards, or have "california" specific models. In any case, that law passing was an enormous blow to law abiding firearms owners :(

no, pull a Barret and don't sell to anyone in Cali, law enforcement included. and tell the Justice Dept they are full of #### and publicly shame them every chance you get. That's what Ronnie Barret did and still does.
