Something is dreadfully wrong.

Yes Gatehouse when I down size, the hunting rifles I plan on keeping are my .243 win, my 7mm Rum, 300 Wby, 338 Wm and my 375 Epstein.

I just can see anything else needed to hunt in North America!

Swap out a few scopes and go with these, all the in betweens are not nessassary as I could even drop the 7mm Rum and the 338 wm, from those i will keep.

Its hard to argue the fact, and really it a pian in the ass to develop loads for all my bolt action hunting rifles. That its just not nessassary to own them all, I must own 30 bolt action hunting rifles? thats crazy, fun but crazy. My goal was to shoot game with all of them but at the rate they come and go it can not be done.

I guess my problem is, I just can't own a stock rifle and call it quits. A few things need to be done with them that cast time, money, and sometimes bitter disapointment. It's stressful when it should be fun. I to am passionate about hunting, but I do like good tools to hunt with.

I'm sure more guns will come, but not for a while anyway.

well with about 3 dozen different rifles to choose from I'm wondering myself what to get next.

Mind you most are military rifles and the majority of those are enfields.

the bolt action with scope hunting rifles are
22-250 stevens
25-06 tikka
7mmRM ruger
308 winchester
300WM savage

throw in the 30-30 winchesters and a bubba enfield truck gun (not the Parker Hale Enfield or the EAL) and I think I have the basics covered

I do desire something bigger, but how much bigger, and what am I going to shoot with it (well everything is the right answer to that one) perhaps a 458Lott might fit the bill, but lots of good choices in the 375 range as well. Perhaps I need both a 375 and a 458.

then there is the low end, 17HRM or 204 ruger. But then there is the older and more clasic 218bee but then what am I going to shoot with a smaller gun that I'm not shooting with the 22-250.

An then I need something just different. Why because I can. :) I have an orphan .277 barrel that may find its way on to a bubba enfield, and then chambered to .277/303Imp (anything but 270win) and dressed up as a tanker carbine, now that would be unique.

But first things first I really NEED a new truck :)

Afflicted +1

At this stage in my life I still have the "desire" to buy something every week, but find I "talk myself out of it" if I have a few moments to think about it.

+1

Really starting to think it's the anticipation and not the actual acquisition that causes the excitement....

I know what you mean.
There was a day when I was a one gun hunter. I had the "perfect gun" and wanted for nothing but a box of bullets and a place to hunt.
These days I have a family to look after, a business to run, and people pulling at me from all different directions....Sometimes simpler seems better.

As far as buying a production rifle I don't even bother anymore. As funny as it might sound I don't have enough time and can't be bothered with the brain damage of trying to screw around getting some haywired factory rifle to shoot.

It's strange how time and money work. I used to have time to hunt and shoot but barely enough money to do it. These days the exact opposite is true......

Most of you "old guys" will know what I mean. :D

My keeper's at this stage are
Sako A1 223
Kimber 84m classic 308
Sako AV 300 win mag

I also have a 25-284 and a 35 Whelen that I'm undecided on. The only other thing I might build one day is a 1000 yard rig.

Got the same game going- I want to be proficient with all the guns I have and to be able to hit what I shoot at comfortably. Cant do that if I am swapping guns all the time. Just sold my 1022 and an older 39a for a nice CZ452 and expect this will keep me amused for a bit. Got a nice Ruger 77 ss leftie 30-06 and a Savage 99c 308 so hunting is covered as far as I am concerned. Got pretty much everything I want to shoot and havent shot it all yet so looking for more is not a big priority. Besides I have to learn to reload and work up loads so I will be busy with that for some time. My 223 and the 30cals will take some time I am sure. Long as I get to shoot and hunt. Priorities IMO.

I just gave myself a smack in the head with a rolled-up newspaper - just to see if I could feel it. I too find myself trying to rationalize my colection - and it's happening more often. Arrrggggggg. I can't believe it's starting to happen to me too. There is merit in each idea throughout this entire thread!

I'll agonize over which ones I 'could' part with AND think of new ones to replace these with, phew! Sometimes sell one - buy another. Shooting and hunting is great - so is buying/selling guns and reloading. However, it still pains me to think of the day when researching and planning to buy a new gun loses its appeal.

I think I'll be OK for a little longer. I just ordered a 17HMR and can't wait to try it out. There's another one or two that I'd like to add but that will necessarily come with parting with an equal or greater number.

Say it ain't so......I'm already starting to think: "hmmm, maybe I should just upgrade the scope on that one....."

40 here I come - I hope to enjoy the next 16 months....

Thankfully, I could still feel the paper hit me....

I too go thru the "thin them out" stage about once every two years...then I start buying again,...and lately I've found myself re-buying the same or nearly the same rifles that I've sold before...I'm on my second Tikka M65 Deluxe 30-06 and my second Sako in 7 Mag.....third 700 in 25-06 and I can't even remember how many variations of 700's in 223,243 and 6mm I've owned.
Still have my 700/300Winny I bought new in '92...and a few others. I've been as high as 14 Rem 700's but I think I'm around 8 now...I'd have to count them...but the only rifle I carried this season was a Rem 700 Ti in 7-08.
I have a stock and barrel ordered for a 338-06 project and that should keep the 7-08 Ti company in the lightweight stable...and then I plan on slowing down a bit....I feel like have had almost everything I wanted at least once...but there's a 6.5 Swede calling my name and I should own at least one more Kimber, the BGR '89 I had was a dissapointment.

Anyone else find themselves happy with the rifles they currently own?
When you've owned and/or played with dozens of different guns eventually you settle on what you want and why you want it.

Why keep dozens of guns around when you are only going to use a handful?

I am currently putting together my 5th semi-custom and after this one, maybe just one more. Problem I find is it is such a PITA to get components up here.

I have NEVER sold a gun and not regretted it. What I would give to have some of my old babies back. I wonder who owns them now? Do they clean them? Do they treat then nice or are they all scratched up and stuck in closet. Its' too much to think about.

I love each and every gun I own; I will never sell another gun again. I will buy many many more of them.

Easy to complain about gunsimths taking time to do a job. If they charged the same as your auto mechanics your work would be done a lot faster and a lot of gs would make it to fl every year!
