I was sold on reloading as a way to save money by a buddy of mine.
So I laid out for the equipment and components and made about 1000 pistol rounds. Then I shot them all. Then I made another 1000. Same story. Repeat.
Then I bought another handgun. So then I’m on the EE buying dies and components for a new calibre.
Made 1000 rounds of the new calibre and got to know a new handgun type.
My shooting improved and now I’m trying out different loads and dry firing a lot.
I’ve been duped.
Reloading is a TRICK to get you more interested in shooting.
I’m spending about as much as I did before except now I have unlimited ammo AND a new gun AND I’ve been to the range every weekend for weeks.
Funny how that works.

I was tricked in a similar way for rifle shooting. Buying boxes of store-bought ammo...hey I bet will save money by reloading! One thing lead to another: way way more shooting...then more rifles, and I need more optics to go on those new rifles.....etc.
Addiction.....
:)

Not tricked, just a weak mind, just saying..... Welcome to the addiction!

expense wise reloading is cheaper in that you do not pay for brass.

reloading is more expensive because you put more time and effort into reloading then just buying from store and because you shoot more, as you are no longer limited by your supply of ammo.

Close this tab quickly. Although, even if my wife reads this thread over my shoulder, I really don't think she believes me anymore when I say reloading saves money
"Honey, buying match bullets is $50+ a box, but if I buy only $1500 worth of reloading equipment and components I can make them for $20 a box. So once I reload 1000 rounds I'll break even; then think of the savings!"

Being tricked into buying more guns, lol.

That's like being tricked into ### with a beautiful woman: When it's done you might feel dirty and used - but you know damn well you'll do it again given the chance. :)

No wonder you're not saving money, you are only loading 1000 rounds at a time. The real saving come when you buy in bulk and reload by the 10,000's at a time :dancingbanana:

I started reloading back in the 80's. Thought I'd save money. Then I started to collect brass from the range even for calibres I didn't even own just on the off chance I'd find a firearm for them (I have succeeded). Then I got into casting for everything from .32 (ACP, S&W Long) - .40S&W & up to .50 Cal Muzzle loader, 12 Gauge slugs and everything in-between. 11 presses, 4 scales, 3 powder throwers, dies, primer tools etc, I'm still trying to convince my wife I'm saving money.

Wait til you get tricked into buying a range. ;)

Many avid reloaders take up shooting as a means of emptying brass so that it can be reloaded again.

I started shooting just over 60 years ago. I still shoot/hunt/reload more than most even think about.

At this rate, you need to start casting your own bullets and powder coating them. Then you could have even more fun at the range and afford to bring a buddy, girlfriend.
