Most ridiculous price for a gun part?

There is a guy on here who keeps optimistically BTTing a WTS post for a stripped FNC1A1 Lower Receiver. They typically sell for about $50 but you can have his for the low, low price of $400 on the EE!

Lol what's equally ridiculous is you turning a $215 USD part into $400 or more CAD part. $215USD right now is $264 CAD. There's just no way you're paying $136 OR MORE for shipping, or tax, or any of that stuff. Little dramatic, don't you think?

Not really some stuff is actually kind of like this, look at optics as an example. A leupold going for $299usd American is like $540cad tax's in and before shipping. If we translate the American dollar to cad they are buying at $368.54. You are paying a 172 dollars above what they pay in the USA. Not everything is like this but in my search for parts and other things it's glaringly obvious your paying a giant mark up on large swaths of this stuff. Something I think mainly comes from a lack of over all supply and demand within country.

Edit because I suck at math.

Not at all. In my experience, once you take into account the exchange rate, GST, provincial tax and shipping (and to get a part from NECG you might have to pay shipping to a dealer in Canada, and then pay shipping again to have sent to your address) you can often just double the US dollar price to arrive at a delivered Canadian dollar price. Do an experiment: just try to order a part from NECG and see how much the estimated total cost will be...you may be in for a shock.

This is a new commercial assembly made in Germany. Perhaps that is reflected in the price.
Of course a surplus one is pennies on the dollar. But the cost of a surplus one has no relationship to production cost.

Not a new part, but an Ljungman AG 42b mag isn't cheap!

Lucky when I was searching for one last year a member was kind enough to part with one of his extras.
Yet other members pm'd me saying they wanted over $400 for their spare. Wow!
Same goes for Husqvarna front and rear sights...Yikes!!!
Asking almost as much as I paid for the rifle...no thanks...
After doing some searching and asking some friends found a full set for $60 shipped.
It pays to shop around...really miss the gun shows...

I just bought a NECG Ruger front sight, because I needed the extra height.

$44 USD part, $30 USD shipping. Cost me $94 CAD. For a tiny little front sight post.

You do not say if you have it in your hand yet - if not, more might still be to come - so, 5% GST dinged by Canada Customs, then $9.95 to Canada Post to collect that GST assessed by Customs. If it was not sent by Post, then can look forward to the courier's brokerage billing shortly, etc. Can REALLY suck to buy stuff from other side of the border line!!!

I paid 1100$ for a picatinny rail for a steyr ssg 04. Then again, Steyr ‘anything’ wins this discussion.
