What is everyone's favorite reticle for a hunting scope.

I’m surprised at all the love for the #4/4a, one I like also. Wonder what sales are compared to duplex?
I have a tendency to shoot animals high in the vitals. If there is no vertical stadia I put the crosshairs lower to where they should be. At least I think I do and in this case perception equals reality.
My 375 wears a trijicon with green chevron on a post. Very intuitive and surprisingly precise.

In a hunting scope I prefer a turret for elevation and reticle moa extensions for wind holdover

Leupold windplex (t moa but not in any of my scopes yet), Burris c4, swaro 4w, vortex has a few

duplex for under 250 yards
longer range i dial for elevation, hold for wind with reticle, windplex, tmoa also works well. nothing too busy.
Tmoa with floating dot in the middle would be ideal.

Favourite on a hunting rifle is the Boone and Crockett. Might as well illuminate it.

Second would be the Copyrighted by name but widely copied Duplex reticle. Simple and yet very thought through.

I like the hunt plex from leupold. But I haven't tried to many, I just went off what I liked over the years in video game and the hunt plex matched it perfectly.

I don't know its proper name, but the dot with a big ring around it.

My biggest concern is "How does the target area compare to my (deplorable) cone-of-expected-inaccuracy?" and the big ring is the quickest way to answer that.

One I don't see a lot but that i prefer is an open + or open X. I loved the m21 open X reticle and love mildot style reticles that have the open center + but wish there was a less busy version

I like the German #4 with illuminated centre dot, and the Zeiss #20 is a "duplex" done correctly, and in some situations the German #1 is very good. I dislike any complicated reticle with fine lines and a bunch of aiming points.

A few years ago a relative of mine bought a BLR in .308 from a reputable dealer and topped it off with a cheap Bushnell that had a duplex with extra elevation lines. He had actually paid for ammunition to have it sighted for 100 yards. We took it back to my 200 yard range to try it and he put the next lower set of crosshairs on the target as the sales rep had told him these were for 200 yards. Three shots and never touched the paper. We went down and looked and it appeared all shots missed the 5 foot high backstop. There was also a big hill so all was good. I looked through his scope and the difference between the lines at 200 yards was over 2 feet of field of view. He asked then what was the purpose of the other lines and I said to sell him on the scope and to never use them again unless it was for range estimation on a golf course.

For most of my rifles, the duplex is all I need. In almost 40 years of hunting, my average shot distance on game is just 137 yards.
For those rifles where I can reach out further if needed, I really like the B&C.
