Ruger M77 - What size rings for 2-7x32mm scope?

I am assuming the medium Ruger rings that came with my M77 tang safety rifle are too high for a 32mm objective?
I used the factory rings with my tang safety M77 (7x57) with a Leupold Vari-X II 2-7 for many years. This was an excellent setup.
Have you tried it to see how it fits you?

Factory shipped rings IME are normally #4/5.

I used #3/4 with a 33mm objective over the action on a scout, which doesn’t have a wispy barrel and had ample clearance. Much better scope height.

Thank you for that. I will check first. Can you tell in the photo??

Yeah, that is a 4B/5B set... you can get the scope lower, by picking up a 3B to go with your 4B... I probably have one in my shop, I can check for you when I get home.

Edit; you may already have a 3/4... the angle of the top ring makes it appear deeper... you will see when it arrives, but if you need the 3B I can fix you up.

Very nice rifle BTW...

Factory Ruger rings (I presume medium) with a Leupold 2x7x32

I find it perfect, but can see why others would find it high.

Ruger M77 rings come in #3/#4, #4/#5, #5/#6 sets... in the Standard "R" and Ultralight "RL" rifles the #3/#4 (Ruger -Low), will work with up to 40mm objectives unless there is a front AO, which will generally require the #4/#5 set. The #4/#5 set (Ruger - Medium) will work with 50mm objectives, unless there is a front AO, in which case you will need the #5/#6 set (Ruger - High).

Some rifles with scout rails etc... such as the Frontier will require one size higher, to accommodate the rail height under the objective.

Leupold 1" lows are your huckleberry.
The rings are solid steel and they are the lowest, lightest and most trim 1" rings available for an M77... pictured here on my sons rifle with a VX-2 2-7x33 with butler creek caps.

It's not always the objective to barrel clearance you need to worry about with M77s when trying to mount low as possible, it's the bolt handle clearance to the eyepiece/ocular.

You will want the height that fits you properly. The size of the obj lens doesn’t make any difference, the crosshairs are the same birth in all 1” tube scopes. Yes, the lower scopes make your setup more compact, but do you want to be bendinding your neck to get you eye that low?

It is absolutely possible to go too low.
