I am in the market for a rifle chassis for my Tikka T3 30.06.

I have come across MDT, they have a chassis that seems to have great AR-style ergonomics and accepts AR15 buttstocks.
Reasonnably priced Canadian product, which is a plus.

I do not know anything about them nor the quality of their product, if any of you guys have things to share good or bad, please do.

I’ve owned several models of MDT chassis’ and currently use and love their ACC for my competition rifle. MDT is a fantastic Canadian company, with excellent products and CS. IME.

That said, it would take a lot to make me pack around a TAC21 for hunting. Different strokes tho. :)

Fantastic company with fantastic products and fantastic customer service. If you're not happy with your purchase, they will go out of their way to make you happy. One of the few companies where a "100% satisfaction guarantee" actually means that.

I'm assuming the Tikka is your hunting rifle? The TAC21 is full metal (6061-T6 aluminum) construction which gets very cold to the touch during winter, as are all their other chassis (apart from the XRS which has polymer panels, but unfortunately they don't currently have a Tikka T3 LA inlet — hoping they make it happen because that's what I want to throw my Tikka into!). Weight can be another concern for some folk.

However, if you don't mind waiting a couple months or so, the HNT26 should be available for purchase. It has a magnesium body and carbon fibre handguard and buttstock which elimates both the cold metal and weight problems. Believe me when I tell you it'll be lightweight. Anyway, the HNT26 is purpose-built for hunting applications, whereas the TAC21 is more of a precision long-range chassis. Keep in mind it will be almost double the cost of the TAC21 chassis body, but it comes as a complete system apart from a magazine. With the TAC21 you still need to buy a buttstock, buffer, pistol grip and magazine.

Enlightning feedback, thanks. Very good points on the cold and weight of the Tac21. TBH I hadn't even noticed the HNT26 on there.
Was drawn to the TAC21 look and ar15 ergos, but yes cold metal and weight might be a deal breaker here.

The HNT26 is their newest chassis and has yet to hit stores, hence the wait. Though I think it will be worth it if you plan to use it for hunting. Buy once, cry never cause MDT will have your back.
 
MDT products are very good if you understand what they are. For instance LSS is light, but it is tiny almost no material at all. ACC is outstanding, but it is a chunk of metal. XRS is a lot of value, but the plastic sides are... plastic. And so on. If you happen to misunderstand what a specific MDT product is aimed for, it might be very disappointing.

But customer service is top notch, just order direct and talk to customer service if you are not happy.
 
I've carried a Howa Mini in a LSS chassis for hunting for a couple of years now and honestly it's not much heavier than the stock rifle and the ergonomics are much better. As for it being cold in the winter, I don't really notice it as I wear gloves when hunting in the cold and I only take the trigger hand glove off to shoot and that is wrapped around the plastic grip and doesn't touch the metal except for the trigger so no problems there. MDT is an awesome company that goes out of it's way to make sure you are happy with your purchase plus as stated before they are Canadian. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Yes, cold metal and weight was a deal breaker for me, YMMV.

I had a rifle with an aluminium chassis. Very nice, quite accurate, I liked it & shot it a lot in the Summer, but I sold it because my hands & fingers just froze trying to use & handle it from late Fall to early Spring.
The weight of a chassis makes for a very stable, accurate shooting platform at the club, but I'm getting to old & lazy to carry that much extra weight very far afield.
