I have an FN Mauser action in 458x2 inch American.
Try out 55.0 grains IMR-3031 with 350 Hornday Interlock.
Also with any 400-405 jacketed 53.0 grains of the same powder. And 13.0 grains of Red Dot powder on PB 400-405 cast for the pussy cat load.
Maybe?

I gotta say here friend. I have used some of the powders starting with an IMR 4 and friends replica sharps in the 45-70 with 4227 powder too.
There's considerable and sharp recoil right here.

Keep a close eye on your butt stock for cracking in the wrist area. The race for velocity in these cartridges will quickly expose any weakness. My two bits only.

I suggest you locate another butt stock for its inevitable requirement.

I have too played with the earlier 300 grain spire HP Barnes TSX. They tend to be very accurate but there is considerable deviation from cup and core bullets of the same bullet weight. Pressure signs came early too which is too bad.

Settled on 350gr TSX@~2300 fps mv more wallop especially downrange. Although good results with 300gr TSX from my Ruger No.1 45-70@~2300 fps impact.

Results with iron sights

  • checked off hand accuracy with iron sights want to use these for hunting
  • owners manual says to drift rear base by tapping although mine has lock screw
  • adjusting kinda phiddly trial & error but eventually got it about right
  • re-attached zeroed scope fired 2 rounds approximately zeroed - awesome!

  • 400gr Barnes Buster 450M BLR load in my 450M No.1
  • about 75 fps slower mv in No.1 both 20" barrels
  • mainly b/c No.1 1:16 twist more friction vs BLR 1:20 twist
