Badgers

Funny animals to shoot. They seem tough as nails... the ones I have shot while I was dismembering gophers that is. In reality I don't feel the things are all that tough, just that they are shaped flat like a hub cap and hitting the vitals is a little different thing. Hit one three times last spring with a 222. Just wouldn't die. Checked him out later and found that two of the three shots were superfitial muskuloskeletal hits. J.M. .02 worth.

There aren't too many farmers around here that have much love for badgers. As has been stated above, they can dig a pile of holes in short order. I killed a young one one tie with a piece of steel rod. My two couch potato dogs had stopped on open ground. Itwas only a matter of time 'til it got down to chewing the dogs, so the badger had to go. Needless to say, I made sure I whacked good and proper the first time. Another time, my dog cornered one between the house and the furnace oil tank. I just stuck my 20 ga. around the corner and ... good bye badger. I don't think I'd want one of those things running up my pantleg!!!!! :p:p

Very true. Never been turned down by ranchers when asking for permission to shoot gophers. Tell him you shot a badger on his pasture and he's buying you beers! No love lost between livestock people and badgers.
