I see the Tikka is going on sale for about $675. I am deciding between T1X $675, T1X UPR $1315, CZ 457 MTR $850, and CZ 457 LRP $1300.

Are the new rifles with upgraded stocks worth the $500+ upcharge or is it better to get a aftermarket stock?

Is the barrel on the UPR / LRP more accurate than the standard models?

It depends what your plans are. If you are going to do a chassis at some point you can save that $500 for now. If you are going to keep the stock barrel the MTR has a match chamber. I tend to buy the base models and then upgrade to things that I like. I went through the CZ vs tikka debate myself. I went with with the 457 synthetic because I want to stay in production division for orps/crps and have no regrets. It came down to availability of aftermarket parts for me.

It’s a tough call. I think the match chamber in the CZ might a bit more accurate than the stock T1X barrel. A chassis makes me shoot better when I’m not shooting off the bench. Then, the barrel/chamber probably isn’t the limiting factor. I went with the T1X and put it in an MDT ACC chassis.

I prefer the CZ MTR or LRP over the T1x. They have a heavier barrel and match chamber. Can't go wrong with either, depends what you're doing with it. The T1x has a really short bolt throw if that's something you'd like. I also like the LRP stock much more than the UPR stock.

I bought the CZ 457 MTR and dropped it in a MDT XRS chassis, the chassis does add some weight to the gun but it shoots very well. I also have a Bergara B-14r that is definitely a nice shooter. It all depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

Also interested in opinions on this. Went from a marlin varmint bolt action to a cz455 varmint and just wasn’t feeling it. Accuracy and build quality were just not awe inspiring... I’d really like to try again and did see the T1x on sale. Not sure I’m willing to try the 457 yet. From what I read, the 452 was the standard for quality. Everything since has been hit or miss.

I've never shot a 457, but have had 3x452s in my life (2 remain) and I picked-up a T1x a little over a year ago. Haven't touched the CZs since. Getting great accuracy from the Tikka, and it's a smoother gun with a short bolt throw. My Tikka is a 20" 22, and I like it so much I seriously considered the $675 sale price on another. lol

BTW-zero issues with the CZs, I just seem to enjoy shooting the Tikka more. Far more forgiving in the types of ammos it'll shoot well. More than any 22 I've ever owned in fact, and that's a bit of a list. Maybe I got lucky, but if I were forced to keep 1 x 22LR rifle for some reason, it'll be this Tikka.

After running a t1x in NRL22/CRPS/ORPS usage in year 2020, I decided to move on from it and that the CZ457 MTR would be a better base rifle.

Im running a CZ 457 MTR 20" in a MDT XRS right now and I've been super pleased with my first CZ. It shoots well and hasn't skipped a beat except for the extractor/cartridge guide being installed in the reverse order of what they should've been, took a bit to figure that out, but now that I have its shot around 1500 rounds without issue!

My CZ LRP has been at Wolverine for months for warranty because it was demonstrably less accurate at 100M than a bog standard varmint.

While waiting, I ended up ordering an IB Barrel and putting it on the 457 action….and I'm very pleased. Lots of sub MOA 100M groups (best under 0.5” at 100M). Suddenly I’m in no rush to get the LRP back…and I wouldn’t buy it again.

T1X vs 457 MTR

Tikka is a very smooth action , shoots well the plastic stock has to go
for any thing but hunting ,

I've got an MTR .22 which I tried in an Boyds at one , the cheek riser
wasn't comfortable but the shoulder adjustment is fine.
The match chamber doesn't like CCI any thing ,just loves SK Standard pLUS.

My MTR .17 HMR in original stock is fantastic , I have an LRP Stock
that Feels good only have not shot it long range yet.

Have you decided on a model yet? If you're still researching then consider the basic CZ 457 Synthetic in either 16" or 20". Should be around the $500 mark or less if on sale. I think Tenda has them in stock. I bought my wife's 16" version for $465 on sale.

It's the perfect model as the base and upgrade everything to your liking. Nothing worst than spending $1200 and upgrading everything and end up spend over $2500 on it... May as well have bought a Vudoo from the get go.

Lastly... My voted for CZ and one reason is how easy it is to change the barrel over the T1x.

Good luck.

Bought a tx1 about 2 wks ago, took it apart and cleaned it and lowered triggerweight,I put it into a t3x varmint stock that I had, Then mounted a scope from another gun and headed to the range.at the range i looked through the barrel and then scope and noticed it was nearly bang on.i then put 4 automatch(most accurate bulk ammo you will ever find)on target and zeroed with 4 clicks at 50,next 25 shots were 5x5 that avg .367 with center x,next 5x5 were were sk rifle match and that avg was .3 something, they both qualified for the rimfire challenge on this site.their is a picture of the target in the my 22 shoots half an inch challenge I was unable to download the information because I don't know how lol.but that was the tx1 first 54 shots out of the box.
