I picked this up at BH auction, now he said it was appraised at just over $400 (I have yet to get a copy of the paper work on that) according to the rarity? When and where were these jungle jims used??

Original WW2 Canadian Army Pith Helmet C & Arrow Marked

The Canadian Army's Soldiers served in the North African campaign against the German Africa Corps and Field Marshall Rommel 1943. At Lake Chad in deepest darkest Africa the British Army had a major fuel depot and was in the middle of one of the Allied land shipping routes. Perhaps Canadians were there too.
Then there is the Pacific Campaign. The father of one of my best friends served in the RCAF against the Japanese last 3 months of the war. Pilot of a Catolina I beleive.
No doubt other areas too, Canadians served in WWII.

Just your standard summer issue pit helmet, you see them often in use during Summer training camp period photos. Yes it is Canadian Army issue. Sold one just like it recently for $100.00 CDN.

Nice helmet still with chin strap + head band.As for the apprased of over $400,$100 sounds about right. The last 2 I've seen have been $30 + $40 with no head band or chin strap, but had C /|\ + year date stamped inside.

These type helmets were also used in Jamaica by the different Canadian Regiments guarding German POW's during WW2. I don't think they are worth $400.00. I would think depending on condition they should sell for between $50 and $100.

Yeah I can't see that BH apprasal either. After I won the auction, he gave one of his blurbs about in case you were wondering BS lines. He must have been reading an apprasal for one of the other items... lol

Anyway $100 still puts me in the black

thanks

PS, anyone want an all correct arrow marked Canadian Pith Helmet. I'm not collecting anything tropical at the moment.

Sun Helmet

Yep ! that's your basic issue sun helmet worn by the army cadets during the 60's and early 70's at camps like Vernon and Ipperwash, still fairly common.g2.

I just picked one up at a local flea market for $10.00, complete.

I got it just to have as a wallhanger reminder of my times at Camp Ipperwash in the '50s.

Mine is identified as Helmet, Sun DSA 100-4036, 8415-161-4778, size 04.

$10 bucks eh! On second thought it would appear that I have just become a collector of Tropical ####.... :D

I know the RCAF was stationed in North Africa during the Second World War, my great uncle was a part of one of their ground crews. He hated it there, too hot in the day and too cold at night.
