Remington 870 Tactical Sights Question

I just acquired a beautiful Remington 870 Tactical 12 gauge shotgun, but I notice that it's missing the rear (barrel-mounted) sight. It does have the original rear sight ramp, but nothing else.

Try as I might, I haven't been able to find a replacement. There are Williams sights available in the US, but they require the use of the base of the original rear sight in addition to the original ramp. I've tried looking at the vendors on this site, but none of them seem to offer the part I need.

The rear ramp has a full-length dovetail on it 3/8" wide, the same width as the front blade's dovetail.

Anyone know of any kicking around, or know where I might be able to buy one?

Thanks in advance -

You'd probably do better to post this question in the Black and Green tactical shotgun forum, but for what it's worth I'd be just as happy without a rear sight, or ghost ring. Unless shooting the gun like a rifle, such things aren't necessary to produce maximum accuracy from a smoothbore cylinder choke tactical shotgun. IMO.

Unfortunately, the links to Remington Canada parts have no pics at all, no descriptions of the parts, no applications etc. so there's no way to know if they are right, or will fit. The link above is for the 522 rifle, and is only the top (aperture) half of the upper rear sight assembly (the part that attaches to the ramp is not included, and I don't have one).

I did try part number F114600 (supposedly the entire rear rifle sight assembly), but again, there are no pictures, diagrams, etc. even on Google. Interestingly, that's a Remington factory part number...which Remington USA says does not exist.

Frustrating....

You mean these sights:

And this thing:

The above is called a rear sight slider most places you mount the sight to that and the slider to the base

You can get the sliders for like $20 on eabay

Cool, thanks! Can we get sights shipped to Canada or is it contrary to US export rules or something? I recall that sporting scopes were banned from export at one point....

OP,
Here are OEM Remington Seven/700 part numbers-
SLIDE-F201975
SIGHT APERTURE-F97681 or F111335
ELEVATION SCREW-F90906
WINDAGE SCREW-F90904
(as pictured in post #5)

There are 3 varieties of rear sight slides & apertures (original, flat & dovetail)& are NOT interchangeable.
Rimfire rear sights(flat type) are NOT interchangeable w/ center fire rifle rear sights.

Numrich Arms should have the parts.
Listed under 700/Seven/673 models etc.

I'm thinking that Remington Canada and Remington USA have different part numbers for all the parts of 870's. I checked Numrich.com, and every single one of those part numbers came back as "nothing found", "part number not found" etc. anywhere on their site.

I sent an email to Remingtoncountrycanada.com (a Remington parts distributor) asking about parts, but haven't heard back. They list some of the parts, but there are zero details, applications, pictures, specs, measurements, etc., so there's no way to know if they might fit.

All of the parts listed are "Out of stock & obsolete" except the rear aperture, but it won't help without the slide.

Who knew it could be so hard to find parts for a Remington 870??!?

I’d give Gravel Agency a call or email, they should be able to give you an answer. I have a couple barrels with this sight set up and one has truglo fiber optic front and rear sights but iirc they don’t fit on the older style rear ramp I have on another barrel.

OP,
The rear sight parts that you seek for your 870 Bbl are the same on a Seven/700 rifle.

Numrich
alphabetical listing of manuf-R
manufacturer-Remington
rifles
700 schematic

There are several part numbers for the same identical parts, all dependent on which platform in which it fits onto.

Order a complete 700 rear sight assy & you will have a spare base w/ 2 c/bored holes for the attachment screws that a 870 sight base does NOT have, since it is silver brazed to the barrel.

I guess they're best described as "rifle sights" or "slug sights"....

Weird, though, that's the only part that's not in stock anywhere (US or Canada, as far as my research has found) & the only irreplaceable part.

I've searched high and low, by all the part numbers I can find for rifles & shotguns, yet the part is either listed as "obsolete" or "out of stock and not known when, or if, they may become available".

It is the sight on his shotgun and the one he is asking about, but go ahead and define "tactical sights" for us LOL

Shawn

Certainly. A ghost ring or a red dot optic, or something like a red dot that can be used in bad light. However, I was legitimately asking a question.

You legitimate question is, are trijicon night sights specifically designed for fighting at night, are tactical or not?

You are aware that no one asked anything about "tactical sights" right? He listed the model of gun he had and asked a question about the sights that were on his barrel. So only those types of sights are "tactical"? I am not sure what point you are trying to make

As DANS40X said in post #7, they are available on the Numrich site. If you go to the Numrich site and search 700 rear sight they come as in stock items.

I had a similar time trying to find an 870 stock stud recently. Numrich had it and other than being held up at customs for a couple weeks it was painless.

Thanks! Finally found it! If the 700 rear sight slider will fit my 870 ramp, that will work! Now to find out the price after exchange, shipping, taxes, brokerage etc....
