Remington 870 Tactical Sights Question

Thanks! Finally found it! If the 700 rear sight slider will fit my 870 ramp, that will work! Now to find out the price after exchange, shipping, taxes, brokerage etc....

I was trying to figure out what Numrich meant by “new style” slider since I had never noticed a difference. Pulled out a couple to compare and low behold there was a difference. On the old one, the top of the slider is flat. On the new one, the rear of the slider bumps up, probably to provide more material around the Allen screw. The bases appear identical. This was comparing a 70’s 870 rifle sighted barrel with a 2010’s 870p rifle sighted barrel.

Maybe contact Casey at Tac Ord, I wouldn't be surprised if he had one kicking around the shop.....

You legitimate question is, are trijicon night sights specifically designed for fighting at night, are tactical or not?

You are aware that no one asked anything about "tactical sights" right? He listed the model of gun he had and asked a question about the sights that were on his barrel. So only those types of sights are "tactical"? I am not sure what point you are trying to make

Shawn

The OP starts off thusly: "I just acquired a beautiful Remington 870 Tactical 12 gauge shotgun, but I notice that it's missing the rear (barrel-mounted) sight."

If we're not talking about missing tactical sights then I have lost the thread of the discussion here, no pun intended.

Also, if indeed we are talking 'tactical' and as per other posts, I'm not so sure I would want to be toting a tritium sight that would be visible to the whole room, or did I lose that meaning again?

Remington 870 tactical is a model of 870 just like wingmaster etc. Does that make it a "tactical" 870 stock what about a "tactical" 870 safety?

I still have no idea what you are on about

Shawn

Got it, you're but hurt he didnt post his sight question the the section you think it should be in?

Despite the fact that Remington uses the same sight on nearly all its long guns

I made a ghost ring for mine. Not really that much work. Can be done with hand tools and a vice. You could get fancy with apertures for it, but it’ll put a slug on an 8” plate at 75 yards pretty quickly. 262DE6D2-90F8-43A9-BE5E-080A44C2953E.jpg

No, I was saying that some here don't seem to know what a tactical sight is, or that we're not able to agree on terms.

His inner fudd cant help it when someone asks a shotgun question in the wrong sub forum. :) :) :)

You're calling me a fudd? You are free and easy with your insults, online. Or, as it seems, you perhaps don't know what 'fudd' means either.

Anyway, about those doves....

The point is literally the first and only person to be talking about "tactical sights" was you

Shawn

I was? So the OP bought a tactical shotgun and was looking for a replacement for the original rear ramp sight but that wasn't a tactical sight?

Does anybody really care if this is a "tactical" sight or not?

We know that the OP is looking for the rear sight of what Remington calls "Rifle Sights".
And those sights have been soldered to thousands and thousands and thousands of 870 Police shotguns .....
as well as thousands and thousands of 700 rifles and 7600 rifles.

What am I missing here?

I think you got thrown by the title of the post being a mashup of what he was looking for..... a sight that would work on his tactical model 870.

It's easy to see where you assumed he was looking for a "tactical" sight, which opened up the discussion to the question, What is a tactical sight?

Tritium sights will not give away your position to enemy snipers , or people in the same dark room as you that want to hurt you..... the tritium glows enough to let you see the sights in low light situations.

You'd probably do better to post this question in the Black and Green tactical shotgun forum, but for what it's worth I'd be just as happy without a rear sight, or ghost ring. Unless shooting the gun like a rifle, such things aren't necessary to produce maximum accuracy from a smoothbore cylinder choke tactical shotgun. IMO.

Big Bad, can you share with us ... what experience you have with shooting slugs at 100 meters ... and what kind of groups you are getting without a rear sight? I am just curious ....

Because I found that there is a big big difference ... between just a front bead sight .... or a sighting system (front and rear) that is fixed to the barrel ... or a sighting system that includes the barrel and the receiver .....

Yes it opened up what seems to be a psychic question that only some can see I guess.

The only glow in the dark sight I've ever seen that wouldn't risk revealing your presence to an enemy at shotgun range is the red dot Aimpoint PRO, which can be shuttered on the muzzle side- but even then there's the danger of reflection off the operator's face or eye pro.

Lol, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you get your feathers ruffled when people post about a tactical shotgun in the hunting shotgun sub forum. Or in a thread about hunting with a short barrel shotgun, so as the saying goes “if it quacks like a duck...”

The guy is looking for a part or two, if you can’t offer any help just move on. Clearly it bothers you in some way.

Ah Billy, clearly you can't read when it doesn't suit you. Anyway, I don't think you're correct about my "feathers getting ruffled" some time in the past, and that certainly isn't the case this time, I was just saying that if it was in the green and black forum people would be on the same page about what was wanted and I will now say that if OTOH the OP wanted some sort of rifle sight he should have said so. But this is ridiculous, explaining things to people who just want to pile on. LOL.

Since we are being blunt, he did in the OP. Where he described what he was looking for and what he had. Hence the photos being posted and it being what he was looking for. You are right this is rdiculous, literally only you are confused as to what was being asked for or about
