"The vast majority of the M1A is either foreign made or started
life in a foreign country. For instance the receiver is cast in
Canada and finished by someone else in the US. Wayne Machine in Taiwan makes most of the other small parts, I'm
not sure who makes their barrels today."

"M1A receivers are cast by Alphacasting in Quebec, Canada and machined in the USA (I don't have confirmation as to who is doing the machining so I won't post the name)."

I was just reading on my second favorite gun related website m14firinglineforum about M1A receivers are cast by Alphacasting in Quebec!!!
Has any one else heard about this??
Is this true?

sproingfield receivers are indeed made at alpha casting ... in canada, at least the castings are done there.... the final machining.... who knows.
as far as other parts.... who knows. BUT i'd buy 3 or 4 norincos before i'd buy one springfield.... just for the recevier alone... and every indication i have seen so far.... says that the norc receiver is superior as it is forged versus cast (springfield) and the norc receivers are "dimensionally correct" whereas the springfield receivers are KNOWN to be out of spec to usgi blue print.
I would personally buy a norc and tune it up long before i'd even consider a springfield.

Once the supply of existing M305 parts is exhausted, the M1A will be about the only option for a new rifle of the M-14 type.
Outsourcing of parts is a standard practice in just about all industries. It is good to see that a company in Canada is capable of doing work like this. SA Inc. could probaly have found an off-shore supplier for the receiver castings.
Anyone want to discuss where Australian International Arms Lee Enfield clones are made?:nest:

Alphacasting has made tons of gun parts for years. In addition to this publicity shot, take a look at their page advertising Wax Injection & Mounting, which clearly shows a tree of pistol slide blanks being put together.

Springfield M1As are machined by Springfield. They bought the company which originally did the machining and moved it's equipment from Texas? or Loiusiana? to Illinois when the original caster closed.
