A bit of help needed - civil war musket

I helping a fellow identify this rifle. He got it long ago and it was sold to him as a American Civil War Musket that saw action. Made apparently in 1839.

Anybody on here know of such things?

definitely not a Tower gun with Suhl on the lockplate and a Charleville style nosecap. It is not inconcievable that it was used in the US civil war because both the north and the south had buyers in Europe looking for anything that would shoot

Looks like a Prussian M1809/39 with barrel shortened 4". Large numbers bought by USA/CSA 1861-2.

Bannerman and other surplus dealers sold off huge numbers of cut down European muskets.
Without a clear traceable marking to a US/CSA unit, it is not necessarily a "Civil War" musket, in my view.
