hi there!

a few people asked me why I've been absent from some of the matches recently - I had some back problems, and now a knee surgery on Mon (2 days ago), so I'm just taking some time off, letting the body try and repair itself... I think the Montreal level 3 will be my first/next match... :D

I get the knee done on the 21st, not looking forward to it at all.

Don't sweat it, I had mine dome 15 years ago, and now need replacement.

Just had my right arm done last Thursday and my left one is next.

Omen, take your time. You will know when you're ready.

yikes - that's waaaaaaay more cutting than what I had in my knee - I just have 2 "small" holes in the knee - for the above pics, it looks like they had to cut it all along the joint/etc? Yikes.... This looks like a replacement? Rob and I are just having scopes done...

Well, it's a week later (well, Mon -> Sat) and I can walk without a cane, just need to stretch it out - I can extend it to about 93%, and bend it to about 90 degrees.... Looking good... :)

I had ACL reconstruction back approx. 12 years ago. Not fun, but no knee wobble like before. They used my medial collateral ligament and cut it length wise, and used it the replace the exploded anterior cruciate ligament. Probably part of the reason I run crappy (not just my fat gut), + I broke and ankle back in late 2002. Up-rooted the ligaments from the bone just like a tree; same leg.

Been there, I had a hole in my knee, (they thought it was just torn) It turned out I had done the equilivant of peeling the shell off a smartie to my knee. 10 weeks in bed unable to put any weight on it. (I had planned to only miss 2 weeks of work) Also I had to wear a knee brace anytime I wanted to do something physical too. I remember when I came back for my first match I had to walk really slow and careful.

Oh and I beat a bunch of people and if you know my group we never let them forget it :D

So all you production shooters out there, ,,,, Omen's first match is your first and only chance to beat him. If not you will also be know as the bunch who could'nt beat him even when he was using a "walker" ....

to much of :jerkit: :p:p

Squeemish?

Don't look then.

They had to spread the joint to get all of the bone chip, cartillage, and crap out.

It's still sore, but the drugs are working nicely. (Perkocet)

I am new to IPSC shooting and only did 7matches but what are the rules when it comes to having a cast or brace on your leg like I have now since yesterday, I already pulled out of the dec 29th match at Waterford, and I know it would take me forever to complete a stage but are you allowed to participate ??:D:D:pirate:

yes you can still shoot a match

Just don't push yourself past your limits while healing, get healthy and come back strong and ready to shoot.

Good luck, and enjoy your rest while you can.

Good Luck Omen and get well. I am doing the same thing here. First my back and then my back and then my knee and then oh ya my other knee all in the course of 2 years. Now all I have to do is loose the extra weight I have got from doing mostly nothing. LOL
Hope to see you at one of our matches next year
Don

hi,

The only real restrictions on what you can do/wear/etc deal with maintaining safety and maybe preventing anyone from getting an undo advantage over others, re equipment... Having a brace/cast/etc wouldn't be an issue, as long as you were able to do everything safely (and even then, if your cast prevented you from doing something that a stage might require, you can avoid that requirement, for a small point penalty)...

my surgeon told me that me that he's aiming to give me a knee that's about 80%, which a brace might push to 90% - so I might be planning on wearing a knee brace for shooting in the future also... ;)

I'm glad this happened... it saves me from having to pull a Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan ole-expandable baton-to-the-knee trick!!!

I hope you know I am just kidding!

I am sure that your recovery will be fast and you'll be better than ever!:)

No you're not!

You did it to me too, on my arm - see above.:runaway:

Later dude.:D

Hey omen ...you going to be able to handle what we have planned for Waterford on the 29th,,Santa's evil elves are up to their old tricks

Actually it looks like I'll be going down south for the holidays, so I won't be doing the matches around New Years...

Well, I found out today (well, yesterday, actually) that I've spent the last 23 years without an ACL in my left knee... Great... So, I'm looking at an ACL replacement/reconstruction sometime in the spring, with at least 6 months recovery/physio time after that... So, I think I'll be sitting out this summer, from the competition point of view (I'll still go and shoot, but it won't be in any way competative - IPSC is for fun, I'll need my knee for the rest of my life, so letting it recover is more important than pushing it for the sake of hit factor ;-) ). Hahaha, maybe by the end of the summer I'll have better luck finding ammo which won't stove pipe in my SP01 Shadow :) :)
