Where can I find m2 .30-06 ball ammo

Looking for m1 garand friendly .30-06 ammo!

Start reloading. It’s the only way to guarantee a steady supply. I usually fire a minimum off 100 when are out. Gets expensive quickly if using factory loads.

Winchester M1 Garand on standby during crop inspection. I invariably see bears on this ranch and had an encounter with a sow with cubs a couple of years ago. Handloads are 165 gr Hornady SST over 46.6 gr IMR4064.

My Garand load for over 30 yrs. 46 grs of 4064 and 165 gr Hornady SP's No reason to change. Always confirm "internet loads " with at least one reliable source.

The original M2 ammo is corrosive...probably best to start reloading.

Corrosive not to mention pretty much Unobtanium.

Also, as you probably know, don't shoot heavier ammo. They can damage your rifle.

Using one of the several gas regulator setups is one possibility.

The military specification for the original M-2 Ball ammo was quite simple:

IMR-4895 powder

48 to 50 grains depending on batch

150 to 152-grain slug.

I load mine with that Hornady 150 Spire Point..... which is not quite the correct shape, but that deep cannelure makes finding the seating depth very easy for older eyes.

Works fine: SA 4337999 groups well under an inch at 100, off the bags.

Not entirely true. U. S. military manufactured/issued M2 was non-corrosive starting sometime shortly after 1952.

Still some clipped LC 69 in my basement.
Century had some dirt cheap in the nineties, in a steel ammo can.
I only bought three cans. They were sold out in just over a week, IIRC.

Hornady is another that is making ammo compatible with the M1 in their 'Vintage Match' https_://www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifle/30-06-springfield-168-gr-eld-m1-garand#!/

I imagine it is not at all inexpensive though, so I too recommend hand loading....that is assuming that Slug's post isn't indicative of parting ways with his stash of Lake City....

Hopefully we see gun shows soon and the like soon where its not uncommon to see old US M2 ball ammo for sale. Here is a pretty good list of what is corrosive and what is not.
