How many rounds do you carry while hunting?

Usually about ten and another ten in a back pack that might sit in the boat or sometimes might be carried.

Mostly in case I get lost, injured, trapped somewhere by bad weather, vehicle breaks down, boat leaks, plane isn’t coming back or whatever.

I’m not sure when I’ll hunt again, but if I do and it’s remote .. I might consider bringing a 22 to leave in a vehicle or camp next time. A float plane was a little late to pick us up one time and the pilot said a guy at a higher elevation was trapped for a couple extra weeks because of bad weather. Always pack some snare wire in the pack too. You never know.

Depends on where I am and how far out I'm going. If it's a quick local hike, I have 3 and 5 round magazines for my rifle. I carry both and sometimes a belt foldy thing that holds about a dozen in a velcro together quiet thing. Sometimes just a round in each pocket to be quiet.

If I am doing a serious hunt, I probably carry 3+5+1+12 and then maybe a few more in a pocket of something somewhere. If I fall over and break my knee, I want to be able to signal a few times and keep a few for when it gets dark. I've walked out of a hike in lake unarmed in the dark and coyotes were surrounding me... Not terribly comfortable.

While moose hunting, I would only load my clip half full of 303 British. Buddy did the same. 50 yds was a long shot. 5 shots was plenty.

Sure, with a buddy it's not as pressing. Alone it's better to carry a pound of ammo rather than not if you fall and hurt yourself. Sure would be nice to signal someone.

I had a friend that was carrying 11 rounds of .270 out deer hunting in the Christian Valley. Mommy griz was teaching her cubs how to hunt and he was surrounded. After some scaring shots, he was forced to shoot two of them and shot mom bear at a few yards with his last round. He started drinking again after that day. Ammo is light, carry 20.

2 mags (8 rds), plus at least another 12 rds. usually more like 2 mags, and another 30 rounds. had a buddy get lost in the bush last year at night, ill tell ya its better to be looking at it than looking for it when you really need it.

How did that go? Ammo I’d like a parachute if you find your self in need of it and don’t have it there is a good chance you will never need it again. At least a box on me and in the gun. More in the truck.

in Aus, i tend to carry 3 in the rifle and always make sure i have about 5-10 in my bag for in case.
that incase is, for Dingoes / Wild dogs mostly.. as the drop bears dont give you a chance to fire

buckhunter78 has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.

For hunting, rifle full and enough to fill it a couple more times. Usually that works out to 8 spares. Whatever is left of a 50 box in the truck or camp.

For culling, as much as I can carry and everything in the country in the vehicle.
