One that never seems to make the cut here in Canada is Mine Rescue. As an Ontario Mine Rescue member for 24 years, we are the first, last and only help for underground miners that find them selves in dangerous situations. Fire, cave in, run of muck, vehicle collision and extraction, all our realm of responsibility’s. EMT, Police, Fire or any other organizations can not go below ground to render assistance. It is up to us. Approximately 2000 volunteers in Ontario alone are there for our underground community, yet we don’t have a badge or most don’t even have a card to identify us. Can we and our provincial counterparts in other provinces count?

Quite the opposite... glorified security guards aren't first responders lol.

You have no idea what you're talking about and obviously you don't work in corrections or you wouldn't be saying that. Not sure what the hate is on people who work with the worst element in society all day and deal with fentanyl on a pretty consistent basis. You should elaborate though, maybe veterans are losers too in your eyes.

I am a first responder. I get up in the morning work my ass off and pay 37% of my salarie for those that don't !
I worked double shift during the pandemia again for those who don't.....
Yes I am a first responder!!!!

Send us an email and we can see what we can do for you! Obviously we would need some proof of accreditation or employment, etc, to offer the discount.

If you think federal corrections do not count as a first responder, you may have just become the laughing stock of CGN.
Retired police officer here and I have every respect for corrections officers. They are peace officers, not security guards. When I served I usually only had to deal with offenders from the point of arrest until they were booked and lodged in cells. CO’s literally spend decades of their lives living with the worst of society for 12 hours a day. There are a few bad apples who become corrupted by the human garbage they are surrounded by but the vast majority are decent hardworking men and women who are generally under appreciated by society. They are subjected to threats and assaults on a regular basis and we all know that the outcome for them is never good if taken hostage. Show them some gratitude because they do a job that few would ever want to.

X2 for this one

Thanks MRA... This is truly appreciated. Thanks and respect to you, Ryan.

As a former Correctional Officer myself, it saddens me to see the number of people on here bashing the men and women that do that job. It is one of the toughest and most wearing jobs someone can do and I respect the f**k out of the people that can do the job and make a career out of it. It is interesting to see people that haven't the slightest idea what it involves, be so quick to speak poorly of those that do it. It is however not surprising.

I’m a paramedic and my wife is a correctional guard in a maximum security institution. Her job is infinitely more dangerous than mine. Let’s all take a moment to thank MRA for extending a much appreciated discount to us, and quit bickering amongst ourselves. Yes, there are important jobs that aren’t classified as “first responders,” and we have the utmost respect for those workers as well.

Thank you MRA!
