Not especially old but my favourites are the Remington 700 Classic models. Due to my age I have pretty much quit buying guns but would seriously look at anything in that model.

I recently inherited a friend's couple .22s. These mean a lot to me mainly because he had them for his whole life and he was an elderly guy. He owned many crazy-expensive guns but these two oldies with gifted to me. I had lost interest in my .22s until I received these two. A Winchester 72 in pretty nice shape and a good condition Remington 34 missing most of the bluing but in great shape otherwise. The Remington has a bizarre yet clever loading system while the Winchester is just plain smooth. Both guns were his go to squirrel/groundhound /skunk-whackers and I witnessed their crazy accuracy on a few occasions. They don't make guys like my friend anymore and they don't make guns like those two.

I guess it's probably the Belgian blood in my veins but Mausers have always appealed to me.
But not the barleycorn front sight!
IMO the British LE No1 Mk III far better front sight blade.
It quite puzzles myself Hitler's Germany could quickly have built very nice high quality 22 Mausers for the 1936 Berlin Olympics. However they send thier soldiers to conquer the world beautiful Mauser actioned rifles with an inferior front sight.

In retrospect I guess that's a good thing?

The Remington 700 classics are a bygone rifle, case in point, all the 700's are bygone, pun intended. Remington had a great adventure going with the classic 700, and their annual surprised chambering. It's most unfortunate that they faltered, however mass production of items equates to less quality control and more failures.

Not eveyone likes the blonde stocks, but I have a factory Remington Maple stock
on my Custom [Leeper-built] 308 Norma Magnum. Plenty of figure, as well. Dave.

I love a good maple stock. That is a real beauty.

I like the look of some maple stocks but it can be brittle and crack more so then walnut I’ve heard.
