I'm trying to decide on a scope for a Tikka 6.5 I just got. I have a Bushnell Elite 10x on it to start but I'd like something with more zoom and possibly side focus. Most of my shooting is 100-300 range shooting but may try some precision that goes out to 600. I'd prefer sfp as it bothers me that the reticle changes size on ffp and I never need to range. I'm shooting known distance and I'm not nimble enough to try any prs style shooting. I'd like something in the 6-18, 6-24 or 8-32 power with exposed turrets or capped target turrets. Also prefer MOA. I've been doing some digging but most scopes that check most of the boxes are ffp. My budget is $500-1000.

Leupold VX3 6.5 - 20
Bushnell Forge
Vortex viper
Sightron 3
Nightforce SHV

Used should get you around the $1000 mark.

Night force SHV or the Leupold would be my first choice

I've been tempted by a Leupold VX Freedom 6-18 in a local gun store but at $800 I feel it's over priced. I like that Leupolds tend to be nice and light. I'll look at the list you suggest.

It should do what you’re looking for.
Maybe , look for a used one from the EE

Time you pay txs though, I think you could pick up a vx3 , used , off the EE.
I think it should be a better scope.

Leupold has a lifetime warranty as well.

I saw these the other day.. might be what you want, and super cheap price.. I clicked and saw that they were SFP, and I knew I didn't want one. probably the reason its so cheap.

Good to know. I had the impression that the VX freedom series was lowest end for Leupold

I guess it depends on perspective. Even if we accept the premise that it is on the lower end side, some of us are coming from extremely cheap scopes in the $200 or so mark.

I just bought two VX Freedoms. a 3-9x40 and a 4-12x40. The latter one's model states it is a 4-12x40mm Creedmoor. I found out that it's referring to the reticle though it can be put on other rifles. All in it was about $500 which for me, coming from truly budget scopes, is a step up. I have heard nothing but good things about Leupold and while I haven't shot through it yet, looking through the glass outside just by holding and adjusting the scope - it's already far superior than what I had previously. The VX Freedom series seems universally well regarded.

I think the next step up from the one I bought is the 6-18x40mm, which is about $900 + tax.

If you’re wanting to dial for the further targets with any level of precision & repeatability, I’d stay away from VX anything. If you just plan to Kentucky Windage, you should be fine with Leupold VX.
