Modern sporting rifle 7.62x39 options?

Looking for a non restricted modern sporting rifle in 7.62x39. To me that means AR like controls, full upper rail for irons and optics. Modular in nature. Able to take AK or AR mags or similar quality.

I’ve had a VZ58 and tried to modernize it. Never got to the point I want.
T81 isn’t overly modern and not modular. Hate 180 degree safety throw.
M10X seems far from reliable, far too open action.
Current 180 pattern rifles mixed results too. Action too open.

Anything on the horizon for modern 7.62x39 rifles? Must be NR, budget isn’t primary concern, looking for options.

Alternatively if the ATRS Sporter goes NR again any particular bolt and barrel combos I should consider? Reading that a lot of bolt or extractors fail on the 7.62x39 AR rifles due to how much material is removed to make a 7.62x39 bolt head work.

Jard just shipped their J180 build kits to their distribution partner in Canada, Sylvestre. One of the bolt faces for the kit supports 7.62x39mm. It differs from the other available 180s in that it uses direct gas impingement against a 180 recoil system, instead of a piston. You can port the entire foregrip/barrel/gas tube assembly to this platform from a prohibited platform, and/or port it to an ATRS or other platform later, should it be de- prohibited.

The J180 is still chonky looking. SBI in Sherwood Park is planning on own DI 180 upper to match their svelte 180 Lynx lower. It's ETA is unknown, but I expect it will look more trim then the J180.

Just curious and totally off topic, but is "port" a shorter version of some other word (trans-port) or just a new way of saying "transfer" much like "hack" seems to have overtaken the word "tip" online?

I understand your point but I've never seen the word port used in that way.... maybe autocorrect for part?

I'm a gamer. In software, the term port is meant to get software working on different operating systems and/or hardware. For example, the original Call of Duty games were developed for gaming on a personal computer, but the software was eventually made to work, or "ported" to work on console gaming platforms, like the XBox and Playstation. Although it will take nearly the effort to move the fore-end component group and other parts from a prohibited rifle as it would to move a game from pc to console or vice versa, there is still an effort required, so I subconsciously used the term.

Thanks Man! Computer port is one of the uses I hadn't considered..... :)

is that hack means today? i thought it means a clever/different way of modifying.
 
WS-MCR and WK180C rifles both come in 7.62x39 and accept 10round pistol mags

AR buttstock, pistol grips, triggers, rails and a full flat top rail is used.

The M&M M10X rifle also is an option, it likewise has a flat top rail, uses AK mags and has a folding buttstock. There are some issues surrounding this rifle. I say this because the information out there seems rather low.

CZ527 is a fantastic bolt fun gun

I think the Ruger American comes in 7.62x39 and uses AR mags so that's a nice one.

I first heard the word hack (beyond hacking down a tree with an axe) used by computer programmers hacking their way into programs and systems, then it seemed to be used for modifying systems, then sort of a work around solution to a problem, but "life hacks" as seen on youtube seems closer to what used to be considered tips as in helpful suggestions.

I was pretty sure I saw another post in the last week or so using "port" similar to the OP and that's why I asked.

AFAIK the 7.62x39 Ruger uses mini-30 mags, but could be swapped to an Stanag mag pattern.

An obscenely long magazine, they already stick out quite a lot compared to a double stacked magazine.

Don't get me wrong I'd like it if some were sold aftermarket. With 3 or 4 I'd definitely compete in my local 2gun with one.

Well have to go double stack like the AR 7.62x39 mags they are not any longer then any other 10 round mag only lame companies use single stack mags because they suck :) HAHA especially for a scout / ranger / carbine platform like come on people ! come on !
