Any Other Reason To Own MRA Renegade Other than Porting Over AR Parts?

I like that these are Canadian made, can be made into SBR's and accept AR mags and parts. I don't like that they cost $1500 while there is still a handful of semi autos priced the same that compete with this.

Right now I feel like the MRA Maverick makes more sense in our market as essentially all AR-10 based rifles have been oic banned. Having a modular straight pull that can be used for the range use and large game hunting makes more sense to me. I'm really hoping complete rifles will come in at sub 2k.

A scope like this one works great. This rifle is 5lbs 13oz with scope.

It is true - the newer MK2s are priced around the same as a WK - around $1299 + tax or thereabouts. The Bison is around $1000 + tax

The scope is a Leupold 1.5-5x20 CDS-ZL.
It's a .223 Wylde MRA Cerakoted 10" fluted match barrel that puts the rifle at 27" OAL.[/QUOTE

Really nice build. If you dont mind me asking....excluding the optic what would the ballpark price of that rig be? Im considering building something similar but wondering if starting with a complete rifle might ultimately be cheaper that building from a receiver set.

That's a toughie. I'd say there's around $1600 into it minus optic. Bear in mind that I got a great deal on the barrel and handguard but it has some expensive bits like bolt, Geissele trigger and titanium flash hider.

It's almost impossible to build them as cheap as buying a complete rifle but if you have some parts kicking around it might be worthwhile to build something more unique.

For me the big draw is NR designation. I don't plan on hitting a range when I want to play, especially since I have 200m at home.
Since you can't shoot restricted "legally" anywhere but a range they are of no interest to me.
The Renegade is really the only AR I have considered buying ban or no ban. I just can't justify tying up the money in something I can't shoot outside of an approved range.

Man, I so agree with your sentiments...that is a large part of the reason I was not aggressively endeavouring to get my RPAL (I had the opportunity once when I took my PAL course, but my baby (at the time) son was sick the next day I didn't show up to do the RPAL part even though I paid for it already) - between the stringent transport rules, the range requirement (I was not part of a range until last month), the registration of guns, and the fact that my ex would be contacted on application...no thanks...

200 meters. Count yourself blessed my friend as the depth of my backyard is maybe 10-15 meters. And then the neighbour who is out maintaining his flower collection is always regarding me over the fence, while I am BBQing on the few occasions I am out there. I am so jealous you have all that space...

This plus the AR is a symbol of freedom and perfect for homeland defense.

Normalizing neutered ARs is just so wrong.

The AR-15 was already neutered when the ones we used to be allowed to have came without full auto but still had the reduced caliber required by that feature. If you want a rifle that still has everything it had in both of the World Wars it won, pick up a Lee Enfield.

The Renegade is a fine long-range plinking rifle, especially without the bolt trying to move while the bullet is still in the barrel. And it'd make a decent truck gun too.

For those of you running 10” or 12” barrels and running the rifle as a hunting rig … is it permanent ear damage loud? I love the idea of a little ATV / hiking rifle but I don’t hunt with ear pro and I’m curious about what it’s like to actually pull the trigger on something this size. I should add that since it’s a bolt gun and would be 223/5.56 or 300Blk, I wouldn’t be running a muzzle device.

My 16" 223 with a Brake is loud and still quite a bit of concussion.
I am planning a 12" build but will be trying a Linear Compensator. From what I read they make a big difference on reducing noise for the shooter.

It's simply a semi auto version. It wasn't marketed as select fire and wasn't the product of a ban. In the US you can still buy M16s.

Is it safe to assume you're not a fan of semi auto rifles and agree with the ban?

I'm not going to get use to it. The AR needs to be unbanned.

I'm sure the Renegade is fine although the name is off-putting.

Renegade: "a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles."

Tikka - my 10.5" 300blk Renegade was loud AF with a 3 prong MRA flash hider. Loud enough to not want to shoot without ear pro.
I recently replaced that 3 prong with a TNA linear comp/barrel shroud, but haven't gotten it out to the range yet to see how much it helps.

Be your own Gunsmith, and good Iron Sights are two good reasons for me. I didn't like the lack of a bolt catch, made it a bit of a pain with our range rules, it required a sturdy chamber flag. If I was going from a Rimfire starter Rifle to a Centerfire the Renegade would be an outstanding Firearm, parts and accessories are second to none, it can utilize pretty much any AR-15 part, and many of them are as good as it gets. A good Vice, Hardwood Blocks, about $150 of hand tools, and a good selection of extra barrels/accessories allows you to turn a SBR into a 600-800 meter Precision Rifle in less than an hour.

The only draw back in my mind is you might want to consider case geometry. The 6.5 Grendel barrel I had on it for a bit was a real chore to work the action, you had to work it both ways firmly. I thought it might have had a tight chamber, but a friend measured my brass and said it was in spec. 223 Rem was flawless.

Muzzle Blast out of anything shorter than a 16" is bothersome at best, 14.5 or shorter un-muffed, no way I'd try it, not on purpose anyway. I've stood behind a 10" 5.56 with a Linear Comp, impressive reduction in blast. A TNA Krinkov clone is great, made a 14.5 I had on it for a bit very pleasant to shoot.

Good to know those linear comps are effective. I had a PWS on a Tavor once upon a time and wow, it was like getting punched in the face when you pulled the trigger.
