Saw a rifle I was interested in, so I sent a PM, “I’ll take it”, 9 minutes after it was first posted. I left the shop to do an errand and head to my house. 5 minutes later, the seller sends this message:

You got it !
Please send emt within 1/2 hr along with your PAL info and mailing address and I will get it in tomorrows mail . Respond now .
Thanks

3 minutes later, seller sends his email address for EMT.

27 minutes later after he tells me I have the rifle, he sends this message: You have now surpassed the 1/2 hr to respond so I am now moving on to the next "I'll take it"

I get home about 5 minutes after the above message.

Gotta be some kind of record.

Well, I guess I missed out on that one! :p

Yeah, that's pretty short! Heck, some E-Transfers take more than 1/2 hour to go through... I'd give a guy at least 1/2 a day if there's a line of people wanting something. No one is in that much hurry...

Unfortunately common sense is not something taught in school. Lots of simple minds out there!
I feel like I’m fairly numb to it now. I’ve spent enough time on the ee now to not take stupid or unreasonable people personally. It seems you have too!

Is this a method to bypass the "1st I'll take it rule", for a higher offer, or did you dodge some sort of scam?

I don't know about anyone else, but that seller seems like a bit of a headcase. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that deal didn't fully materialize. There is a certain degree of reasonableness here that some people don't seem to understand - not everyone is near a phone or a computer at all times. It's one thing if you said you will take it and he gives you a day or two and you don't respond. 30 minutes seems does not seem reasonable unless he/she has to sell it/ship it the same day as he/she is leaving for a lengthy vacation. But that could be stated at the outset if that was the case.

I can only see these terms as reasonable if they were spelled out within the ad/listing, with regards to post-sale expectations. People can then choose to express interest (or not) based on whether they think they can respond/pay within the seller's parameters.

Sounds like fraud to me. As "rifleman762" said, EMTs can sometimes take 30 min, I have seen them take 1/2 a day to be delivered.

Lots of scams out there...

Yeah Ken, I have had that happen too for a run of the mill M94. One time a fellow told me how smart he was compared to me because he drove an Ford Escalade. I told him that I only hoped that it was paid for as he was clearly in full panic mode and needed the money! There is a #### weed born every minute. It's a hobby fellows, not a power structure! Wilf

30 minutes is not enough time to allow but after some experiences with prospective buyers I've been considering a X hour timeline for EMT after an "I'll take it."

Hmm... a Ford Escalade. Quite rare, I gather. :p

Sounds like a nut, but is still better than the guys who don’t respond when you say “I will take it” because they are waiting to see who will offer them more than their asking price...🙄

Yup, I've quit selling on CGN because of the people that take a week to check their mailbox or only visit the site once every week on Sunday evenings, if they aren't to busy.

Procrastination is a good way to lose an item, while someone else makes more of an effort.

Kjohn, your response time wasn't out of line IMHO, maybe the seller had just had enough if procratinators or people on their own schedules, without any concern for others?

As Mr. Dynamite stated, at least he let you know, instead of leaving you hanging.

30 mins is absolutely crazy. 12 hours is more like it. I like when the seller puts their expectations directly into the post. You were probably dealing with a millennial who wanted instant gratification.
Did you ever check if the item was actually sold?

Call me old fashion, still like to call and have a little chat before giving out personal info.
Talking to someone is the next best thing to a F to F.
