anyone loading 95 gr Nosler BT's for deer in a 6 mm?

I think DarylDB uses them in 243, or has used them

personally I would look at a tougher designed bullet for deer hunting in a 243/6mm. Pretty light caliber to start with, I personally dont have the desire for a fast expanding bullet that will shed alot of its weight on impact.

I don't know anything about the 95gr BT, but may I recommend the 85gr TSX?

Seems to be much more in line with what you need.

shot 2 deer this year with the nosler 95gr BT's and they worked great , Both deer went down in one shot.
the first one was in the neck from about 30Y and it droped like a sack of hammers The second was brodside at about 75Y , got it in the lungs small entrance wound hitting some ribs, exit wound was was about 3.5 inches in diameter , it ran about 30y and went down ..........left a very easy blood trail :)

40g IMR4831

Same here I load them in my 243 and punched some paper with them, they do shoot. I went to some 100 gr Pro hunter sierras instead a bit better bullet and just picked up a box of 85 TSX bullets if i take it next year thats what i will be using.
But have no game experience deer sized !
I would use a better bullet i think ! I have no doubt it will take a deer, but as luck will have it if you get one of those stupid angle shots or front on that he wont turn you could be in trouble!
Just my $.02

i have killed about half a dozen deer with the B-tip in my 243. I have had mixed, but mostly good results. I have had bang-flops on big mulie does out to about 275 yds, and big blood spray and a short run as well. The one incident that comed to mind was a mulie doe at about 75 yds that was quartering away. I caught it in a rib on entrance and made a very impressive entrance wound, with copper and lead shreding through the vitals. It was a very quick kill (reared up then went over backwards) but with a bit less velocity the shreds may have not made it.

I dont know why you would switch from the 95Grain BT to an 85grain TSX?:nest:
What makes the TSX so much better? The BT takes deer down just fine .
Angle shots? would you not want a heavyer bullet? and if the shot is that tough ,mabey the shot should not be taken ?

but then again its just my way of thinking , I am not one to beleive "if a bullet costs more its better " ,If the bullet dose the job why spend more :)

Mt reason for switching over was I did not like the performance of the Ballistic tips out of some higher velocity cartridges that I did harvest deer with.
I wrecked a deer with a 270 Weatherby and 130 gr Btips with a front shoulder shot, and you would not believe where I found bullet fragmants.
All being equal i hit bone.
A 95 grain 243 bullet is going about the same velocity + in a 243.
I have used TXS bullets in a lot of my hot rod cartridges at 3400 plus velocity and have never dont the damage as I did with the Btip.
So to answer your question, A BTip will kill, but bullet performance on Bone just sucks!
If i could 100% gauranty I would not hit bone sure i would have no issue.
Not just a TSX, but a Accubond, Interbond, Patrition, Speer Bearclaws, any pemium bullet.
Is this answer acceptable!!! :)

I have seen all of the above hit bone as well and they do fragment as well , mabey not as much as the BT but they still fragment . ;)

Thats what i was getting at I would use all the above before a Btip but what I have seen is a TSX hit bone and remain in one chunk and not cause as much carnage.

I would put anyone to the task of driving a BTip to 3300-3400 Fps and not shatter it.
The accubonds, iterbonds, ect...... do work well and do not come apart that bad on bone at 2900-3100 fps and yes They do not retain 100% of there wt... but you should see what a BTip does not good.
That darn TSX bullet now has killed 3 animals for me 2 with 7mm Rums and a 30-378 and it held together quite impressive.
Thats what I have my own theory based on!!! Speed (243 win) and Btips dont work well. I personally find. As i said I have yet to kill with that combo! and still keep my first thoughts I would rather use a TSX at that velocity on deer sized game! my 243 is still a virgin on deer.
But the dam Btips are accurate little suckers the best accuracy i found in my 243!!!

Guess I should have added as well to hold true to the question.

Hell yes I have killed deer wit BTips, in my 270 Wby, 30-06 and 264 wm.
Yes they died, they all worked fine! Intresting on bone LOL!, but The deer all went down quick.

Got a doe and a buck this year with that bullet, 40 yards to neck and 35 yards hart shot on a big spike that dropped right there :). Brother took a doe in neck and also 2 kills last year, 1 through both shoulders at about 50 yards. I can't speak for Long range performance, but the bullets sure does the job at short range.

Where I hunt deer, where 95% of shots are short range, .243 is my prefered caliber. I like to go for the one shot kill. BT have shown to perform very well for me.
