VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

It was $660.59 which includes tax, shipping and their $40 muzzle brake....highly recommended! I think they gave me $50 off for the scratch/dent part. Came in a gun box with the 4/30 and 1/10 mags bayonet and cleaning kit. There was a couple of small paint scratches on mine...results may vary. It was good service all around.

John.......this is the VZ-58L with chrome bore

Well there sure is a lot of valuable info on this thread. One question I still have is; is the chrome bore version much better than the regular one rust wise and value. Would it be worth waiting for Marstar to get a new supply of chromed ones or just get the regular one now. I don't want to wait a couple months but I also don't want a rusty barrel bore. Also seems odd that the chrome bore shoots less accurately than the regular one.

Chrome bores on a VZ58 DO NOT shoot any worse than non-chrome lined. that's a FALLACY (mostly perpetuated by CZ858 owners from what I can see).

Put it this way - the Colt Match H-BAR AR15 is STILL made with a chrome lined bore. No-one is complaining about its accuracy. Or how about all the WSM and WSSM rifles on the market? Yep! All chrome lined.

Chrome lining will halt corrosion in the bore, makes cleaning SUPER easy since copper deposits mostly just wipe right out, and REALLY extends barrel life (like double or more).

If you do alot of string shooting where your barrel really gets hot, wait for the chrome lined version. if not, you'll erode the throat out of your CZ858 way sooner than you might think!

By "strings" I mean this:

Not disagreeing - just letting u know my experience with both - I have shot half inch consistently with my 858 at 100 yds - and tried several chrome restricteds and never got less than inch and a half with them

new trick

DUH ! Just got back from the range - a buddy solved the front hanguard removal to clean the gas piston with a scout scope mount WITHOUT having to grind it up.
Put the weaver rail on the mount BACKWARDS - over the receiver - it protects the optic from the ejecting brass and I saw NO stovepipes ! If it happens I'm sure you could file the bottom sholder off on an angle . Possibilities - A full length scope maybe ? using rings in front of the turret only ? Anyone tried it ? Comments ?

Numrich, @ w_ww.e-gunparts.com/ should have what you are looking for. Under 'CZ' and '58' as the manufacturer, and the gun model.

Wood Furniture

Anyone know where I can buy a set of wood furniture for my VZ58?

I hear wolverine has new parts kits with all wood furniture (extra $15 )but no buttstock, they made up the parts kits from the armourers kits which werent selling - but check with john:cool:

Thanks Doc911.

Btw, how the quality of the wood and finish?

Couldn't tell ya, haven't orders those parts. Red Fart Wood suits me fine, 'till I can aford some nice poly from Palinak...
Numrich will ship here (I've ordered lots of parts from them to date), but if you're here on the Wet Coast, careful of that $100 limit...While we have it right on our side ($500), the yanks ain't that bright yet (anything over $100 will get stopped on the US side). Lost a Christies 10-22 stock that way....

as much as I'm a fan of having spent cartridges bounce off my expensive optics if you mount your rail on backwards you won't be able to use the stripper clips to load your gun....

If you have more than one mag, why would you use the charger clips?

And by the way, they are NOT stripper clips. This is a stripper clip:

True about stripper clip usage - but the cz stripper clip is slow and finickey to use - and the shells dont bounce off the optic but off the weaver rail under the optic :runaway:

dumb idea, the whole point of not removing the weaver rail during cleaning is so it would not be disturb after zeroing , what do you think happens to the rail every time it gets hit by a casing?

also you cant use charging clips, should you want to.
