Wanted to buy some IMR 3031 - nothing exotic, a mere IMR 3031. Found it at cabelas.ca (1lb). The price is high (CAD 56.99) but OK, I need it badly. The guys took all my data: name, card, license, what not. Here is what they wrote to me: bla-bla-bla Order Total $82.72. Still OK, I really need it. Next message from them, the same day: Due to high demand, processing and delivery times may take longer than typical. We appreciate your patience. OK, I'm patient. And finally, five days later, I receive this: Due to the dangerous nature of the Article# 33596 – IMR 3031 POWDER 1LB on your order, we are required to ship this product via Day & Ross (Who's that, by the way?). There will be an additional shipping charge of $ 174.21 required. Yes, additional charge of CAD174.21! So, CAD 257 for a can of IMR 3031. Who's crazy here, me or somebody else?
Could anyone guide me, where could I buy what I am looking for at a reasonable price? Thank you.

It's fairly common knowledge that Cabela's only wants to sell you powder in store.

You'll be hard pressed to find a deal for 1lb of powder. Maybe post up your location and someone might know of some local to you

Try Rusty Wood Trading Company, as well, other guns hops in your area. Higginson powders, check them out. Canada Ammo has powders with similar burning rate for $159.00 for five pounds plus $20.00 shipping.

Shipping one or two pounds of powder has always been problematic. There were a couple of stores that set up their commercial accounts to handle it, but unless they invested the time to make it work it was crazy expensive. Now that Canpar has stopped handling powder and ammo, it just got even more difficult.

Day & Ross is a less-than-truckload trucking company. Basically they drive around and pick up pallet-sized shipments until they can fill a truck, then move it between major centers, then drive around again dropping off all those pallets. They can handle all kinds of dangerous goods, but their whole business model is around palletized shipments, so you were paying to have a pallet of 3031 shipped to you, even if there is only one jar on that pallet.

If all you need is one bottle, you pretty much have to find it locally or count on paying through the nose for shipping.

It makes no sense really. Have to stock up when things are cheap. Everything is in a price rotation. One example is the sako ammo rebate in an ammo shortage

You best bet is to order a few pounds from Higgensons if they have it in stock… none of your shooting buddies want to split a shipment?

Much easier split the shipping if you’re ordering a few pounds between a few people.

Is Latulippe still around in Quebec City?

Avoid powder purchases from Cabellas at all costs. If you must , pick up in store and be prepared to measure the weight !! Pilfering is alive and well in these big franchise organizations, and nobody even cares . Don’t be a sucker . That is all .

when buying powder at Cabelas (online), don't have it shipped, have it sent to your nearest store and pick it up at the store... this may or may not be convenient for you... worked well for me in the past...
