Anyone bought one of the 'current' SW model 19s?

Check out the videos from Hickok45 and MAC. Those will give you a good overview. One obvious difference for us is that the new version is 4.25" and unless you have a 12.6, you can only own an older model with a 6" barrel. I think the shorter barrel is a more natural fit on these smaller frames, but that is personal preference. The new versions are reported to be stronger than the old, so that is a big one if you want to shoot steady 357. Some will always like the older versions (bluing, no internal lock etc) but general consensus seem to be that the new version is quite good.

Prohib handguns are less than 105mm. That’s 4.13 inches. 4.25” are good to go for the Canadian market.

I had a 17 with a 6" barrel- in retrospect regret selling it.

Although I agree with the comments about liking the proportions of the 4.25". Not having 12.6, it is a nice option.

Thanks all for the comments.

I have a 19-4 made somewhere from 1977 to 1981. It has a 6" barrel and shoots real good.
I also have a new 19-9 made in 2019. It has a 4.25" barrel and it also shoots real good but I find not quite as accurate as the 6" gun. I believe this is only due to the longer sight radius of the older gun and nothing else. I love both guns and I got the new gun just so I don't wear out the old one. The new one also sports a stronger construction for regular 357 use if that is your thing but I just plink with 38 home loads most the time. Lots of dung flung on the net at the new guns but as a guy with many older S&W revolvers I find the new gun is just fine. It also is real close to the forbidden 4" guns that we of course can't have.

They don't make the older model in a 4.25"

I think that was in reference to the new model.

I have a old 19-2 and it is almost legal -1/2mm, Yep, close is only good in horse shoes.
I really like it, starting to get a bit of end shake.

I have not shot the new one.
I think Harry Cal. may have a new model?
