Help with a reliable semi auto

OK so I convinced my buddy to buy Tavors x95. I didn't do any research first and it's a jamomatic POS. Any tips on mags, or just throw it into a lake?
Secondly, what is the most reliable rifle that big brother will allow us to own that's not restricted? For the time being anyhow.
Haven't been on here in a long time , I don't follow the ever changing goal posts.

Haven't really heard anything bad about the X95 ever, Maybe only a few people don't like the factory trigger; but nothing like you describe as being a jam o matic?

Did you field strip and oil it well before first trip to the range?

What kinda ammo are you using ?

I have never seen any issues with mags unless you are using promag or some off beat no name mags

My Tar21 loves LAR mags, RRA, magpul, USGI to name a few

Don't give up on the Tavor it's a fine piece and they are 99% trouble free

Worst I could say is maybe you got a lemon?
 
Jamomatic X95? That's a new one. What sort of problems? What ammo? What mags?

I've found the gen 3 Type 97s to be extremely reliable.

Have you diagnosed the issue? If it's a failure to eject, there's causes to address. Same for failure to feed. Really depends on why it's jamming up.

Certainly not a common concern with Tavor's.
 
OP - can you provide further details on what exactly the issue here is with jamming? Feeding? Ejecting?

I have an X95 and really like it. The one thing I have noticed with it (and this seems to be the case with my MRA Renegade as well) is it doesn't seem to like PMAGs that are loaded to the full pinned five (5) rounds. However, loading the PMAG magazine to four (4) rounds eliminates feed and jam issues. Similarly, using a non-PMAG such as a C Defense Products LAR15 metal 10 round metal mag does not have issues and similarly the C Products Defence five round metal mag seems to be OK.

Another suggestion would be to charge it with the bolt lock/catch rather than with the charging handle. That seems to mitigate some of the feed/jam issues, but that's again with pinned to five PMAGs. I heard Lancer mags have less issues though I have not tried it.
 
Tavor Tar21's and x95's alike are some of the most dead nuts reliable platforms on earth.

You most likely are having operator or magazine induced stoppages, or possibly you're using some out of spec ammo, worst case scenario you got a lemon that should be covered under warranty.
 
I have the original Tavor, aside from the mag not being seated properly I've never had any jams. It's my most reliable rifle in the same group as my sks and type 81
 
The issues are fail to eject. Will fire but not chamber the next round without using the charging handle. He only had the one mag when we went out. Bought it new from Marstar. The mag was butcher pinned like someone took a hammer to it on all four sides. He did buy a couple RRA mags. Haven’t been out since. The ammo was with a few different types. Remington and some handloads, and some steel case MFS

Try a couple different magazines and ammo combinations. Also make sure that the mags are fully seated and if they're difficult to seat download one cartridge as others have said. Make sure the action has been cleared of the thick packing Grease. Lube with g96 or similar reputable firearms specific oil. Make sure that during the charging process the operator does not ride the charging handle home, just pull it back and let it go.

If all else fails contact Marstar and North Sylva regarding warranty.

Once you figure out what the weak link is, you and your friend will be thoroughly impressed by the platform if reliability is your shtick.

I also recall reading about some dealers or distributor was accused of swapping the Duramag with the EMEI T97 steel mag with double rivets.

Yeah I think in those cases, the cheapo mag came wrapped in brown craft paper. This seems to no longer be an issue with the last two to three recent shipments coming with the Duramag. It also appears that multiple stores had this in the same shipment, so the likely culprit was at the distributor level or higher.
 
I bet I could throw my type 81 down a flight of stair's and into a swamp, then blast off 100 rounds of prehistoric dirt ammo with no issues.

If you did your research, you'd find the Tavor and X95 are universally praised for their excellent reliability. (And despite what the obnoxious naysayers that always pop up in these threads say, I find mine to be quite accurate)
Magazines are almost always the culprit for an "unreliable rifle," perhaps consider spending a couple bucks on another magazine before throwing a $2600 rifle into the dumpster. You might be using junk ammo but I haven't encountered anything my X95 won't eat.
