Can anyone point me in the right direction or recommend some areas to hunt whitetails, im from Manitoba and usually go home to hunt but this year im thinking of sticking around and giving it a go here. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

Anyone know how to forward that to the deer out in my back forty.

Someone has gotta tell them. They don't exist! LOL!

They are like efffin rats, everywhere. Still more Mulies than WT here, but a few weird looking gaits seen every year, and a fair few flagging tails as they bugger off....

I have a strong suspicion that if clues were dynamite, the guys that colored in that map would be pretty safe specimens! LOL!

there is small groups of them here around 100 mile . I see them around ruth lake but never in a legal shooting situation as they habituate to the farm fields and bands of trees that are too close to homes and occupied outbuildings. I see them occassionally over by bridge lake too but never went after them in the huntable areas.
Oddly enough a white tail doe was hit by a truck about 100 yards down the road from me yesterday so the fires have probably pushed a few north out of the vidette/deadman valley, another area I have bumped into the odd group of white tail.
I would try up north between chetwynd and ft st john or perhaps the south west corner of the province.

The map is from the year 2000.

Settlers road north of radium use to be good, have not been in about 5 years though. A good day you would see a good 100, never got skunked. Not huge 4 pointers but nice size for BC. I would love to go hunt the big whitetail in sask or Manitoba.

Can only hunt big game in BC with a guide as an out of province hunter.

this is incorrect but I will let you go investigate or yourself.

seeing as someone from the internet police showed up LOL
OP if you can prove BC residency for 6months you can use your Manitoba Hunting credentials to aquire a BC hunter number. A call to Frontcounter BC /BC Access and they will fill you in on the needed details.

The map is from the year 2000.

The WT deer were here before that.

The map is probably as good a place as any to start, but finding the deer is better.

The Northern Reaches of Eastern BC are essentially an extension of the Northern Boreal and prairie country, I would expect to find the same deer there as anywhere across the strip of the Boreal.

I have not spent enough time in the South East corner of the province to tell you anything about what to expect there.

WT deer are drawn to agriculture. My buddies family farm east of Vernon gets lots of em. They like to hang out on private though so unless you know someone....

If I was coming in blind I would start with the map areas that are moderate to plentiful and cross reference that with google earth looking for agriculture and the Regional District land ownership maps looking for Crown Land near farms. And of course comparing that with the regulations for open seasons and no shooting areas.

And pick the area closest to wherever I am at.

They may have been grrr before that but they are aggressively expanding their range.

I live in the very south east corner of the province snd the WT hunting here is something to be desired. With very liberal seasons, especially for does, our population, in my area has been decimated. I forgot to mention the wolves as well. The days of seeing 100+ a day are gone. We used to never shoot small bucks till the last day, now your lucky to see one.

Good luck.

Honestly sounds like to much non sense to deal with, I’ll be heading back home to hunt my uncles farm. Thanks again guys

It is not complicated. Anywhere east of Highway 97 between Osoyoos and Salmon Arm has whitetails.

Maybe I was spoiled in 3-26 but they are in all the fields. Ripped a hole in 12 of them or so in 9 years.

For a big BC whitetail bucks the Peace region of BC would be the best bet. Boundary area in the south and the east Kootenays would also be a good area. I saw a few whitetail in Barrier area as well.
