Glock Gen3/gen4 question

Hi been trying to find a solid answer.

Can I put a 17 gen 4 slide on to a 17 gen 3 frame,
Using a recoil spring adapter? If so will my gen 3 barrel work? Lock up etc.

Glock 17 Gen1-4 barrels Are interchangeable. Slides are not. A gen 3 slide will
Go on a gen 4 frame but not the reverse. There is more Material on the front end that will not slide back into the frame due to not having the clearance for it. Strike Industries is one of the companies that sells a “Filler” piece to close the gap left by using a Gen 3 slide on a Gen 4 frame. Most aftermarket Slides with Milling & RDS accommodation were in Gen 3 but now are more common in Gen 4 and even Gen 5 which has a completely different plunger.

Gen 4 had significant revisions in the frame and slide. Using adapters or fillers will most definitely void warranty and should you have a catastrophic failure, you likely won't get support.

Please elaborate.

The only difference in the slide is the Dual Recoil Spring which many threw away immediately and put in a Gen 3 Single Spring with a spring adapter.

The Filler isn’t just cosmetic but completely fills the void to ensure a proper cycle rearward and forward without tilting side to side.

As for the frame. Grip Texture, Trigger bar (a small bump was added where the trigger engages the plunger which was removed for Gen 5), and removable back straps are the only difference between Gen 3 & 4.

If I’m wrong please let me know as I would hate to push misinformation to my fellow CGNers

The trigger bar as you mentioned as well as the connector. Possibly the locking block depending on the manufacture date, Trigger mechanism housing depending on calibre.

When you start adding up all the "different" parts and the aftermarket fixes + tolerance stacking, plus the fact that Glock won't warranty stuff like that, why do it?

I see what you mean about the other internals but most have had great success swapping connectors, trigger bars, strikers and springs (glock OEM or Aftermarket). I’ve yet to hear of a catastrophic failure due to any parts swapped that I’ve listed. Usually when someone is removing any part themselves or via gunsmith that isn’t a direct replacement they should know their warrant is void. I guess it was wrong of me to assume the OP or anyone reading these posts would already know this fact. My mistake.

With that said, it’s a glock not a Rolex.
