Toz 8

Picked up one myself a couple weeks ago. The underside of the forend has no finish left so I'll probably refinish the whole stock.

Great rifle to practice marksmanship with. These two groups were shot from a bench at 50 yards with cheap federal.

Here's some extra info for anyone interested. I don't remember where I grabbed this from.

"The TOZ-8 is a single shot .22LR bolt action cadet rifle conceived in 1932 by the designer-gunsmith D. M. Kochetov and serially produced at the Tula Arms Plant. The TOZ-8 is a simple device, trouble-free and reliable in operation. It was widely used for primary education in the school shooting, gunsmith and DOSAAF paramilitary organization in the USSR for decades. About one million TOZ-8s were made from the early 1930s to the late 1950s. Many TOZ-8 rifles are currently in civilian circulation and it is still used for hunting small game."
 
I think if someone can work with those iron sights and wish to experiment at achieving longer range, you could build wooden or teflon spacers to fit underneath the rear sight ramp.

With enuf time, superior ammo and co-operative weather (no wind) a patient shooter could discover the proper thickness of home made shim for longer ranges from a steady rest.

I think a good shooter could grind it out to 400 yards/meters.

Sniper22 your stock cleaned up much nicer than mine, please post some pics when you finish it. I need some inspiration. Thanks everyone for the advice on the bolt, I hit it with Brake Kleen and a tooth brush, its as clean as it ever will be.
 
I'm new to gun forums but I've noticed you post QUALITY guns. Do you have any advice about selling my VOSTOK TOZ M35 50 metre Olympic Free Pistol? There doesn't seem to be a category/market for ISSF guns.
 
Gave in and decided to pick up the one from frontier. Kind of conflicted whether to stick to the iron sights, or see about putting some sort of russian optic to see how far I can reach with the thing. Got plenty of Cooeys for the iron sight side of thing, so we'll see~

I've got a BelOMO 3.5x17 target sight I purchased years back that might just fit the ticket, just depends if I can get my hands on a scope mount that'll cant back far enough for the poor eye relief the scope offers. Will experiment!
 
Got my TOZ-8M yesterday. Spent an hour sopping up all of the cosmoline but it was worth it. Gun turned out nice, I'll have to put a picture up soon.

Noticed that mine has a sight that's only calibrated out to 100m with an AK style adjustment, which is fine. Just would've been fun to plink out further with open sights. Might just be an excuse to get a second one since I'm still conflicted about scoping one up or not.

Either way, doing an accuracy test tonight, gonna see how it fares compared to my Cooey 75, will share results.

I gave one to my brother a few years back. It escapes me if the backsite ramp was registered to 200 or 250.
 
I scoped mine, and had some stupidly small groups at 100 yards this past weekend. You know, groups that just make you giggle with joy. I love that 22!

Great!Thanks! Now I'm inclined to think seriously about buying one. My 70+ eyesight is not good anymore at 100y with just irons.
 
My father left me his father's TOZ 7 when he passed some years back. It's still has the original mag, the stock is deep red and looks well taken care of (doesn't need refinishing). The scope I had to replace due to the original becoming "brittle" and breaking off at the range one day (good back up sights, so all good). Shoots great. Actually, it's the .22 I exclusively use for target practice and longer range plinking.
 
You guys are a bad influence. I happened to be driving by Tiger Arms in Port Coquitlam today, and grabbed one for $211 out the door. I’m amazed at how solid and hefty this rifle is, love the bull barrel on it. Now I have to pick up some Brake Kleen and Acetone tomorrow to get her cleaned up. I probably will sand out the few gouges on the stock and refinish it.

I'm sure you could use a dogcollar with these but it might be a bit on the sloppy end. Been looking around and most slings just look like some generic leather strap of some sort, not entirely sure if there was a proper one intended for them or not.

That said. if anyone is looking to sell one of their sling swivels for whatever reason, mine didn't come with the one on the buttstock for some reason.
