M1 Garand gunsmith

Recently acquired Garand is doubling. Trigger wear appears to be the issue on my inspection and testing. I am not milking the trigger and have shot Garands for 40+ years so pretty sure it is not technique. Is there a Garand gunsmith anyone would recommend? I figure that might be quicker than trying to locate a replacement part on my on.

Its tough to diagnose the problem based on visual inspection or measurements. Any of the trigger/sear, trigger pin, hammer spring or hammer spring housing could be causing the problem. Best idea is to try each of these replacement parts in turn by test firing at the range. You could also try a trigger housing assembly from another rifle to rule out trigger technique. These rifles are getting old and parts do wear out.

And this issue can be diagnosed one hundred percent faster if you can locate a good functioning Garand.

Probably best to Not tear down the trigger group!

Carefully keep the parts seperate in a large flat and dry surface.
Compare parts under good lighting conditions.
Bring a micrometer with preferably digital readout.

The Kuhlhausen manual series is prefered. Followed by Hatcher's book of the Garand.

Thanks for the offer, but it would be 15hrs of driving + ferry time. Now if you could point me to some good private land deer hunting in your area I might pack my tent and head your way;)

No private land hunting, but being in the Rockies there is plenty of public land available!
