Probably an inelegant post title but here we are.

At any rate, I own a WK180-C and currently I have an inexpensive 3-9x32 scope on it that, despite it's low price, isn't completely horrible. Despite that, I want to upgrade my scope.

Therein lies the problem: I don't know what direction to go in. Half of me wants to go with something like a red dot (and perhaps a magnifer) or a holographic sight. The other part of me wants to go regular optical scope so I can easily hit small steel plates at 200-300 yards (which I can currently do with the cheap scope).

So, with that preamble out of the way, I was just wondering what you cats were doing with your WK180-C rifles. No wrong answers -- even iron sights are fine -- just curious as to what direction you've gone in.
 
LPVO, preferably a 1-8. 1x for up close and quick stuff and zoom in for smaller targets. I've used a 1-8 to successfully engage 10 and 12" targets at 640 yards (on 8x) and it's nice and quick up close on 1x.
 
I hadn't really considered LPVOs -- mostly because I didn't know whether I wanted to go down the rabbit hole of 1-6 vs 1-10, 1st vs. 2nd focal planes, and all that other stuff that seems to come along with considering one.

That said, I'm not too opposed to one. Any recommendations for about $600 (before tax)? I'll be honest, I'm not an expert on optics these days, or arguably ever.
 
That price range? Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 and you'll have no regrets!

Being a 223/5.56 round it tends to max out usefulness at 500-600m at best of times.
If your vision is fair a LPVO from either the 1-4 range magnification is pretty good, or even those up to six power seem all the fshion these days.

A nine or ten power magnification is really counting the flees on a dog for optics even at 500m.

Fixed optics at between three to four times magnification are pretty popular too and work well for up to those ranges. Usually these are collimator type sights.
 
I got a goofy setup on my 180. At first I just robbed a 3X prism scope off the AR15. I was happy with that until I discovered the accuracy of this rifle with good ammo and a Triggertech trigger installed from my AR. It was getting consistent 2 MOA and often well under 1 MOA even one in 5 groups would be at 1/2 MOA. So I got thinking those 2 MOA groups are usually when I struggled with the low magnification. A buddy of mine has a 180 with a 1-6 LPVO on it and I instantly shot it 1 MOA consistently with it. I am sure the stock trigger held me back.

So now I believe my current setup will work for me. I haven't had it to the range yet because with weather has been $hit here but hopefully soon. I am using a Burris PEPR 30mm mount with a 4-16x50 with an additional 3 MOA red dot mounted on top of one ring. I am hoping this will give me the accuracy I think this rifle can do consistently. Will let you know here once I get out. If not I will be sure to be pi$$ed because this gear set me back $1500.

All this said if you just don't suffer from my level of accuracy OCD then I think a LPVO will do you fine. I wouldn't go lower than a 1-8 though.
