Hunting Archery Moose this past week in Northern Sask Porcupine Hills.

I am obliterated with bug bites.

Hunting buddies claim they are 1 stage Moose ticks?

Hot and driest year we have had in 10 years.

Moose really started rutting the final day of season(Sept 24th).

I never actually seen the bug that caused bites, its not sandflies, or mosquitos.

Seems to be worse if you spend time around sloughs tall grasses etc.

I try to avoid areas with Moose beds especially but hard to do when your Moose hunting....lol.

Anyone know a source for Permethrin Spray in Canada?

Are these bites super itchy and oozing clear fluid? I get bites like this every year hunting elk in the Swan River valley. I've been told they are a type of mite that lives in the hazel brush but I also suspect stage 1 ticks. I never see the actual bites happen so they must be from super small bugs. I have seen large amounts of tiny tick like bugs on me, almost like I've walked by a nest of them and have always squashed and brushed them off but they're so small I'm sure I don't see all of them or miss some.

I hunt in the Swan river valley and get bit up every year. Definitely not tick bites. Last year was particularly bad with over 18 bites one week and 15 or so the next. This year I only had 3. I always assumed they were No-See-ums. Went fishing at Dore lake this spring and the outfitter was very concerned about getting bit by those little buggers!

We call them no-see-ums, I #### you not. They're very small, think fruit fly, usually annoying, but some of my friends get severe reactions that fill with oozing puss and then form giant blisters. Not fun.

yup, no see ums..... very tiny almost invisible, smaller than the average fruit fly and usually in swarms.
I've encountered them in various places in BC, even offshore on the west coast out in the boat. Brutal little bastards they are.

I don't know. I am familiar with no-see-ums and the bites I get from them and these bites are different. The bites I'm getting definitely sound like chigger bites.

I was thinking chiggers too but not 100% sure.

We spend alot of time in Hazel Bush as well, but I also think its from high slough grass?

Pretty sure some are thinking Sandflys but its not a flying insect. We have sandflies bad up north.

Lots of wasps/yellowjackets this year as well.

Well whatever they are, they're worth the itch and annoyance. My Swan River valley elk from this year:

Look for Protector house and garden permethrin, I get mine at Urban Nature Store. 750ml water to 500ml Protector.
