YouTuber Gnutzguy did an inspection video on what he dubbed the Type 81 "Red Edition"; he considered the cosmetic efforts nice, but not enough to justify calling it "Special" -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5Ro7ft7HTo



His folder had a slight bend, but he considered the deviation minor enough to not be a problem.

I wonder why it's always the folders? I never noticed any bend in either of mine.

I’ve got a fixed stick that is bent. I wouldn’t be able to sell it so I’ll just keep it and shoot it.

Two folders that I’ve owned have been mostly straight.
 
Yeah to be honest I was totally happy with the upper hand guard/heat shield it just had an annoying squeak. I was planning on tying some paracord on it for a neat effect.

The trigger was the biggest of my concerns as it double tapped and the hammer fell after I let go of the trigger.
Just an overall unsafe trigger mechanism.

I tested my folder like you did in the video, trigger seems to be fine, no such problem
 
Before you send it back, if you don't think it will void the warranty, is it possible when they installed the right side safety (saw in video) and threaded pins (if this threaded pins were added for an optic ready version) they somehow mis-installed the trigger assembly? I saw one Type 81 side mount installation video where the fellow removed the trigger group for no reason; is it possible one of the springs was removed and re-installed improperly?

The pins are not threaded but it does have a right hand safety.

It doesn't really. If the front trunion is the crooked area then the barrel and receiver will be out of line. This could cause you to require an excessive amount of windage use in an Optic that was receiver mounted.

If it's the rear trunion, then it's purely cosmetic.

That's not too much of an issue.
 
Is there any other parts needed specifically when you switch the left side safety to a right side?
Is their a new safety plate along with it or simply just pulk out old safety, push new safety in.??
 
Interesting observations ive made.... the rifles once again seem to have raw steel springs where as the LMGs have blued springs. It also sounds like the mag latch pins on the Rifles are once again not staked, where as on the LMGs they all are.

What does this mean in practical terms? Any real difference in operation or longevity? Wouldn't be too hard to stake mag latch pins yourself no?

No difference in operation or longevity. Bluing just offers corrosion resistance versus steel in the white. Staking is easy with the right punches. Murray 3-D is correct. New Special edition are unstaked compared to the LMG. The springs are blued in LMG and white in the Special edition. The top cover is cut much tighter and cleaner on the LMG while the Special Edition has some gaps around the front trunion. Overall, the Special Edition Rifles are made a little more poorly compared to the LMG. Still serviceable however.

These are cheap guns... back in the day I suspect these would have sold for less then the $700 Vz58's when they first came to Canada.

nothing else is needed buddy, the internal plumb colored spring steel is the retention point
