Looking for a Competition Electronics Pocket Pro2 shot timer in Canada. I see Lockhart Tactical has them but never dealt with them before and their price seems a bit steep. I called Wild West Shooting Centre in Edmonton as they show out of stock and apparently haven't had any for over two years. Thanks.

I would recommend the timer/chrono from Pact.
My first one I purchased in the late 1980s early1990s.It gave up the ghost last year. I ordered a new one from Pact.
Very please with the product

I am looking for a basic model that I can use for practice, pistol and PRS type stuff. I don't need bluetooth and not connecting to any tablets or phone. Just an old fashioned boy from the Rock. If I wasn't issued a cell phone at work probably wouldn't have one of those either.

Then your question is moot point as you don't really care what timer to get or you may as well use an old fashioned mechanical stop watch.

The new timers actually allow you to keep more accurate track of your practice and also handy in competitions to get more accurate results and additional data.

BTW, even Pocket Pro 2 timer is kinda obsolete now. Also when I had to carry them to the range, I was amazed how huge those timers are comparing to the others:

Pocket Pro (not the 2) is still my choice for dry fire. There's nothing as quick for changing par times for dry fire routines. I bought mine from the Ben Stoeger Pro Shop.

I only use an AMG for live fire.

I'm interested in a simple basic timer. I had a Pact years ago and it served well.

If you don't mind me asking - how much is their basic model?

We need bluetoooooth too... This is another 10 years old timer that should have been updated 4..5 years ago.

Maybe you do. Everyone has different needs or requirements when choosing a particular piece of equipment. Maybe you should speak to CED if their timer is not up to your standards.

I use the ipsc shot timer app on my phone. Works great for my needs. My brother and I write down any pertinent times if necessary from it. I used to have a surefire brand one on my iphone 4, years ago that was solid. It doesn't exist for android at this time though.

Maybe yes and maybe not. One normally should not buy outdated tools when newer tools became available that save you time and provide better quality for the job.

Maybe I already did, or maybe, who knows, CED spoke to me about bringing their timer up to the industry needs...

Anyhow, let me break it down to you. The cost of electronic parts for adding bluetooth support to a device like ced7000 is somewhere around $2..5. The engineering effort is somewhere between 3..4 weeks. At that - they really have no excuse to not have BT added to device they haven't updated in nearly 10 years.

With multiple BT-enabled devices on the market and some of them available for over 3 years already, the CED and PACT will be playing a catch up game now and they choose a tough time for that with the current electronics shortages...

Completely agree. I’ve had the AMG timer for nearly 2 years now and the Bluetooth connectivity and integration with Practiscore is unbelievably convenient and informative (made even better with Praciscore Log). Wish that our IPSC association would adopt them as the standard timer for our matches as the data that is uploaded to Practiscore is invaluable.

Even for our local steel challenge club nights, the AMG timer allows us to get more passes done because we don’t have to enter times and the timer can be controlled through the app.

Can’t wait to see what will come with the next generation of timers!
