so I'm down to about 100 projectiles and have been looking to buy more.

Not a shop in Edmonton seems to have them, even P&D was out of stock.

I've got enough reloaded 303 to last me about a year but these shortages of everything is becoming more evident.

we need a home grown bullet maker in canada that can service this caliber.
There must be someone out there up to the task.

Used to be CamPro but they have discontinued production for this calibre. No explanation given. Too bad.

The CamPro were perfect for plinking around. I really wish they hadn't discontinued these because for the price they couldn't be beat. PPU wasn't too far off in price, but I've only ever seen them in small bags (50 bullets) and usually only 2 or 4 in stock at any given time

I think when I exhaust my supply of jacketed bullets I may go to cast bullets for their price. I have bought from Jet Bullets before for a different size bullet and was impressed with the communication and quality

Casting is the way to go. More work but much cheaper. I don’t have to worry about running out for awhile with about 8000 lb of wheel weights in 1 lb bars. I hated running out of bullets and not being able to find any even before the shortages started. Only thing I am getting down on is gas checks, about 2000 left.

A big shout out to Boolitcaster a member on here who makes jacketed 303 bullets from fired 5.56 cases via a swaging process....I found them accurate and reasonably priced

The cost of surplus 7.62x54R is going up as well.

Field grade milspec bullets, definitely not match quality

50 cents per round, not including shipping or even picking it up yourself.

I don't find the powder in the Chinese surplus to be all that consistent, unless it's all poured into one container and well stirred up, even then it can be inconsistent as far as burn rates go.

It's just fine for "plinking'' but unless I've worked it out properly, in a rifle I was going to take to a match, I wouldn't trust it to shoot well.

IMHO woodchopper is looking for ''better bullets'' maybe for club milsurp matches??

As far as working great in "Enfields" that really depends on whether you are happy with just going bang in the general direction or you need good accuracy.

That being said, I have a lovely No4 MkI that will shoot those .310 diameter bullets very well.

After recently purchasing a restored 1917 Lee Enfield I bought a couple of boxes of factory ammo to test fire - the rifle performed quite nicely with 1.5" - 2" groups at 50 and 100 yards but the price of the ammo was not so nice. As I already reload for my 45-70, 38-55 and 45LC I decided I would go that route for the LE only to discover that it was impossible to find bullets of any kind. So I have opted to cast my own , I just purchased this Lee MOLD DC C312-185-1R and cast 50 bullets yesterday as a test batch, next step is to experiment with powder coating as an alternative to my normal process of using my Lyman Lubrisizer to lube and size the bullets.

My $0.02 cents worth.

I have no doubt that woodchopper has gone the cast bullet route before, may even be already set up with the proper mold and sizers for his rifles.

I also suspect that he's looking for FMJ bullets for milsurp matches??

To my knowledge, most clubs frown on cast lead being used for those matches.

Some might be OK with it, but it sort of takes the fun out of the game.

could you find some non-steel x39 projectiles?

I had seen some threads previously about recycling ammo

What someone else i know does is look for bags of bulk lead shot and melts them down and trades for 303 and some other proj with someone else for the lead.

If you were willing to skip some steps or knew some people willing to help then you can potentially source your own

yup used cast from time to time, not really a fan

I would like to find some more Sierra PSP 180grn or Hornady RN 174grn. I've still got a small stash of both of those but I have 300 cases primed and ready to load and just not enough bullets to do them all the same.

I'll keep looking and when I find some I'll stock up.

I do have unopened crates of 7.62x54 and 7.62x39, one of each unopened and a few hundred rounds kicking around but I'm not interested in pulling those, as I do need to feed the SVT40, Nagants, and SKS as well.

I guess I'll just have to get my enfield shooting fix from my DCRA and Ishy 2A a little more. :)

(yes its a 2A not a 2A1)

Curious as to why clubs frown on cast bullets for matches.
