Unashamedly showing this one off:

I used to hunt with a tikka t3 338 wm with a skinner peep and battue front (gifted to me by the kurgan!)
It was a good gun and hunted successfully and was a common tool for pointing at porch bears. At the start of COVID I had to let it go.

RIP think the guy was going to turn it into a 7mm magnum target rifle.

I have now replaced it with my take on the SAKO handi rifle. Inspired by conversation with user Why Not? about how they used to make a much better action than they do today. Pieces cobbled together through CGN trading. Gunsmithing well done by Gary Flach, at a very reasonable rate as well.

SAKO Aiii in 338 WM
SAKO peep and front sight
McMillan SAKO AV stock with edge fill (expertly fit by Mr.Flach and a great deal on the e.e)

No I don’t know how much it weighs yet, information to come.

Probably going to mount a Steiner gs3 2-10 on it, provided it fits.

Hoping to use it as a do it all western Canada hunting rifle, and someday the world?

Congrats on your new acquisition! Your a brave man, I could never shoot such a big shoulder pounding cartridge. Well, I did once, never again.

Recoil? You should try my Fiberclass 416 Rem Mag. Actually...I’m scared to.

These Sako AV rifles are excellent especially when fiberclass stocked.

I forgot to mention the rifle has been cut to 20 inches and the gun apparently weighs 7 lbs. Looking forward to getting my hands on it

I was thinking of doing the barrel band for the full look but I was waffling on it and not doing it was free.

If the Ruger with the synthetic stock was available it might be a different story, but I think this one has some improvements in stock and sights even if it does not have the cool Ruger adjustable express sight.

Big weight and presumably quality difference between this stock and the older and current synthetic stocks offered from the factory by SAKO

Looking forward to hearing your report. I stumbled into a 20” 338 win with open sights a few weeks ago. So far I can only tell you it kicks like a mule and express sights are no good for shooting groups. The mid 90s synthetic stock/recoil pad needs some updating for sure.
