Help identifying a shotgun please.

Dakin Gun Co. out of Kansas City then San Francisco — had guns made in Italy, Spain and Japan.
The Italian ones had a star stamp with the word finito.

Galef Companion made in Italy.
These tend to have tight and roughly cut chambers. Not a problem for most lead birdshot. However slip a buckshot round in there, there's often no ejector. But extraction becomes more difficult.
Absolutely worse with a simple Super X foster slug.

Barrel weight 1.220 kg at proof
76 mm chamber
18.4 mm bore
It only has one star above the PSF - Magnum chambers require reinforced proof indicated by two stars under current rules of proof.
I wouldn't be firing 3 inch shells, not least because it would loosen your teeth with recoil.

Apparently my meager research reveals they once (Galef & Son) were partnered up with Beretta and imported these into the USA.
But for some reason this partnership failed but Galef continued to sell them in America under thier original name.
Nurmrich sells thier extractors! Which doesn't sound so great to me.

I stand corrected — MAVI made them, Galef imported them, and Dakin imported copies of the Companion — also from Brescia with the same Brescia proofmarks.

Thanks
It looks way nicer than your average $150 Couie single.
Ribbed Barrel, Silver accent receiver with engraving.

Think I’ll clean it up as a wall hanger.

It is indeed proofed for 3 inch shells. The mark on the action is poorly struck. Firing one three inch shell will certainly get your attention.
AN is the date code for 1985.

These are basic generic Italian single shot guns, retailed with many well known ( like Beretta) and obscure brand names applied. They are better than average basic single shot guns and can be found from .410 to 10 gauge with various barrel lengths. There were even a few variants sold as basic trap singles but they were too light and not built robustly enough to be successful at this task. They make a fine inexpensive single shot for general use, usually priced realistically about like a Cooey in similar condition.
