Gun auction prices do not seem all that high.

They also charge the seller up to 25%, most auction are making 25% off seller and 15% off buyer, 40% is one hell of a charge

Yes, auction houses usually charge fees to both sellers and buyers, it's how they make a living.

The buyers and sellers enter into an agreement with the auction house freely.

High price on a few items with many buyers. Had to pay crazy price to get what I wanted, due to lack of supply and high demand.
You just need to be more GUNNUTZ then the other guy.

what is the MSRP of a WWII converted auto PPSH41 I want to know if I over paid

If your talking about prohibs thats not really a normal market to compare to anything I will grant you that but the last auction was nuts. A issc m22 .22 pistol someone bid almost 550 or something and msrp is like 350 new. I seen many lee enfields with warn bores and miss matched numbers for 1000 + I mean maybe these bidders dont have many used guns around their towns but how could they have the wear with all to find an online auction but not know they have to pay 15% plus taxes plus shipping? There are deals on misc ammo and parts lots and things..

On the other hand...I did recently buy a rifle from an auction and thought that I had paid too much, after all fees, shipping, etc. were taken into account. However, the auction description and photos had been poor and when it arrived the condition was far better than I expected. I realized that I had paid too little. So every now and again you can still win. But its getting rarer and you need luck.

6/7 years ago, I got some Unique items & fair deals..even made a bit of profit! It was + 23% I think, being my first firearm auction {in person}, I stupidly didn't know til'
'check out'...luckily, I still got decent deals. Nowadays, Nope.

Most people 'winning' the majority of these auctions seem pretty dumb lol as per, simple math. With the added fees, most of the time, it's not worth the price, but they still buy. I don't get it myself, why they are bidding so high on common type items? The price gets ridiculous.

Unless it's a hard to get/rare item, I get that. Most stuff isn't, if they want it so bad for 15-25% Higher than retail & used..let them at it! I don't even bother anymore.

With respect I understand your point of view but to see someone willing to pay a price at auction and think they don't all understand the added fees and are all "dumb" is not correct IMO. Have I overpaid ? sure have but I got things at auction that I couldn't find elsewhere. Its like gun show prices, some are plain crazy but there it is if you want it. With all the covid ,political turmoil going, and the current US market situation we are in a sellers market. Its going to be interesting where the prices end up.

well most auctions I go home empty handed

sometimes I will buy a box or 2 of reloading gear for cheap

and occasionally I do wind up with a rifle

but then I'm a cheap bugger and want a great deal.

as for buyers and sellers fees the auction house has to pay for everything involved with the business

if you don't like that take your rifle down to the local gunshop and see what they offer you, or put it on consignment and see how long it sits on the shelf.

I just find it odd that an online auction out of Saskatoon allows the seller to bid up the items. Seems against the idea of an auction. They have a seller buyback fee.

I’ve sold a lot of guns and components thru XRO. No need to run up the bids, I can’t believe what some guys will pay for things these days. Items going for several times the original price paid not long ago. It really beats dealing with broke #### tire kickers online.

Pretty much spot on. I’ve bought and sold a few things this way and it works pretty well. Tax and shipping suck though

Maybe some 10 years ago, at Maynards. I went in person and left a.600 bid on a pretty gun that I knew nothing about. A Remington 660 in 350 mag, with the striped laminate stock, new in box quality. Out the door about 750. After struggling to find reloading, or ammo 8 gave up. Put it up on the EE, on advice 9f a.gun Smith for $1800 with what supplies I'd scavenged. My mailbox blew up with 30+ I'll take its. First guy, who responded in 3m8ns got.it.

There are bargains. IiRC I saw a older Tika 695 in 30-06, with a.decent scope go for $425 this last week. Still trying to get that twitch out 9f my thumb.

See what I mean. Now.i have a.case.9f 9's instead 9f o's. To go with.ky.periods.instead.of.spacebars. Should go shoot my Rum, that will cure it, and rattle out a.loose.tooth or two.

Certainly are a few deals to be had. I started watching the auctions as I had a hunkering for
Older rifles. 3 years ago there had been some real steals. Seems up to a few months ago absolutely everything
Had high prices. But as of late more and more decent deals to be had. The new stuff seems still pretty high
I did see a couple decent Mauser sold for under 400 this weekend. Clean looking classic rifles and seemed
Real fair.

I put in a few bids on a couple sites but once you add in 35%. EVERTHING went way to high. I have in the past made some good deals but now with the auction houses and buyers being screwed by the delivery options that are no longer available to us, especially with reloading components. I bid less and less.

Just odd that the same buyers are bidding on many items that are already overpriced. I put a bid in and the same person immediately bid retail...hmm.

i usually walk away with a large amount of low cost things that people didnt notice, and a few guns people didnt seem to want. Sold some chokes and parts here and there. Ive sold 40% of what i didnt personally require but made back my money many times over.

Got an $800 retail gun for 450 with fees and shipping. Traded up and combined with another deal to pay for an expensive toy. Sometimes things just come together. I find it may depend on the auction house's reach or audience
