Schmidt Rubin in 30-30 question?

I just bought bubbed a 30-30cal 1889 Schmidt in VG cond I noticed its not been rebarreled Since the barrel has all the swiss markings with 30-30 stamped on it.
the chamber has not been reamed out because the 30-30 is smaller then the 7.5 I even try chamber a 7.5 by finger just to see if it would fit and it was not even close.
so how the hell did they rechamber it with a sleave??????????? and is it safe??????????

Am going to unbubba it and make it look close to a military full stock version Because the bubbed short stock looks horrable:(
then that it will make into a good looking bush gun since it only cost me $140

Nothing wrong with turn a bad looking bubba into nice a look alike surplus;)
 
theres no way they reamed it since the chamber is now tighter then the orignal 7.5 and it is a swiss barrel 3 groove too!
 
The suggestion is the barrel was set back enough to rechamber to 30-30. You would remove the barrel, then turn some metal off the back of the barrel , rechamber and replace barrel. .
 
Actually most of them and the two that I have, have had the chambers reamed out and a chambered insert installed. They seem to be safe enough, I've fired hundreds of rounds through mine and not one problem, accurate as well. bearhunter
 
I have had a couple, both with the chamber insert held in place, it appears, by a flange from the insert which is pinched between the receiver and barrel. Certainly, the flange on the back end of the insert is wide enough for this to be the case; I've never had the nerve to take one apart.

And yes, they are nice and accurate, you can use fairly steamy loads in them and, BONUS BONUS you can use nice pointy bullets, which you sure can't use in your 94 Winchester.
 
schmidt Rubin to 30-30

I have one without a magazine. Do your converts still use the original 1889 Schmidt Rubin mag or was the mag modified to fit the 30-30 rounds ? I have to find a mag for it.
 
I had one.

Someone bubba'd the already "sportered" stock so bad it was useless, it was missing the mag, the rear sight was buggered, so I gave the barreled action to a gunsmith pal for the barrel.

I do have a bolt though.

The bore is .30, and as long as you keep pressures under the original (39k), you should be fine. Do NOT fire factory 7.5X55 swiss as the pressure exceeds this by a good margin.
