After trading my 640k chuckster 22 mag im left with a sadness that only a new 22mag can fix. Im at a crossroads to what i should buy. Another savage to compliment my other bolt action rimfires or to sit in a mdt chassis? A cz in wood for more traditional rimfire or hold off a bit and buy an annie of some type.
If i go cz whats the benefits and cons between the series?

It will be a hunting rifle for small game and scoped so iron sights arent an issue for or against

I bought a used Annie 22wmr model 1661d HB, and it is amazing quality. It looks good, and is still in production, for under 400 dollars .It has no sights, and no place to put any open sights, so a scope is the only option.I also like the CZ 457 for their barrel changes, and nice trigger. Both guns are old world craftsmanship, and will last for generations..Anschutz sold their guns ,under the Savage name in Canada, for years, and that is another good option, for a budget choice.

There isn't an Anschutz Model 1661. If your rifle is still in production, it would be a 1761. Other models in 22WMR include the 1516, which while still possibly available new, is no longer in production.

If you go looking at CZ and also the earlier BRNO - (both of which are very fine pieces!!) pay attention to the safety - will be "backwards" to your other bolt actions. I do not own a newest one, but apparently that was resolved for North Americans on the latest version - the 457 (?). I have a BRNO #1, a CZ Silhouette and a CZ Scout - all are 22 LR, not 22 Mag, but each has the "push forward" to put on "SAFE" and pull back to "FIRE" - works fine, until you do not deliberately think about it. "Muscle memory" or "practice" will revert you to want to function it like the others, when you get in a "rush", which, of course - puts you on "SAFE", when you meant to get a quick shot off...

As well, seek clarity about the size of the scope mount dovetail - for sure, some CZ 452 were made with 3/8" and some with 11mm - close, but not the same - different widths across the top and different dovetail side angles. And then the BRNO was different again at 16mm. Again, I suspect the newest versions have that sorted out, but can be confusing when looking for mounts for used rifles.

You know a lot more than I do, about these guns, and I'm sure you are correct. The single shot target rifle Model 1403,you helped me with, is a fine shooter, and shoots like a laser beam.I wish I knew how good these rifles are, decades ago.

Wont complain about the .22 mag.
I have the. Rem 597 mag semi and recently found a really nice used Marlin 882 at the local gunshop.
I will always check out the local GS first.

You could also just buy another Chuckster, as they are great shooters.Savage makes one marketed as a "65m". Same gun and same look..A bit more money will get you a Voere 22mag, that is almost equal to an Annie.I have a German made Voere that is great quality, but underappreciated and unknown to most shooters.

I've owned several 22 rimfire mags, including the Chuckster, Anschutz, Browning and CZ.

I kept the CZ and sold the others.

NOTHING WRONG WITH THE OTHERS.

The main reason I kept the CZ 452 is that it isn't ammo fussy, after I glass bedded the receiver area in the stock.

It has a preference for CCI Maxi Mag WMR Speer TNT 30 grain and CCI Maxy Mag WMR HP+V HP 30 grain.

Minute of bunny head, out past 150 yards, if I do my part.

It will shoot all others well enough for similar accuracy right out to 100 yards +

The other rifles were definitely ammo specific unto themselves. 22WMR ammo can be difficult to find for certain brands, such as Remington etc.

I came across a store whose owner wanted to pick up a bunch of ammo at reasonable prices.

He ended up with a mixed bag of manufacturers and weights.

I bought 20K rounds from him to help keep his costs down and because it brought the price to $6 per 50 rounds.

I kept all of the CCI Speer/HP+V Maxi Mags and sold most of the rest at gun shows.

Now, this ammo would cost anywhere from $18+ per box in most stores.
