Is the Savage Model 12 HB single shot in 308 Win really a precision rifle?

Some years ago, I thought the term “precision rifle” was used to describe a rifle that was capable of printing small groups and I posted some half minute groups shot with a “sporter” rifle …. and was “informed” that the term “precision rifle” referred to a “style” of rifle, not accuracy.

I shoot 3/4" groups with mine with some plinking ammo. I say they shoot well for the price.
If you are looking at the Cabela's 12FV, they have a blind mag, not single shot. I picked one up a while back in 6.5CM when they were on for $450. Stock is the weak link, very light weight plastic which makes it very muzzle heavy. The stock is comfortable, so I bedded it, filled the butt with silicone caulk and lead wheel weights to give it some weight, cut a channel in the forend down the middle and epoxied in a long piece of thread all to stiffen that up. Shot decent out of the box, shot much better after the stock tweaks.
This is it after the stock tweaks, groups from left to right are 120gr PPU which it didn't like at all, middle is FL sized 140gr Nosler, right is NS with same load, it clearly likes NS loads.

It's about 60$ for a single shot follower for them. I have one in my 12FV. More accurate than I need.

I ran into an issue with this one when I put it in an MDT XRS stock, with the poly MDT mags it wouldn't feed, rounds jumped out of the mag and jammed before the chamber.
I have a 10HS so I stuck it in that stock, the 308 feeds fine in the XRS, and the 6.5 feeds fine in the HS stock with OEM Savage 10 round mags...
First precision rifle, i bought from Le Baron in Montreal.
Bought this rifle before i got all set up to reload. I still have it and since i rolled a pet load, this rifle is a MOA rifle all the time and often sub MOA. The plastic stock is flimsy

The rifle stock is a 4 shot center feed bind mag.
I put a single shot follower which replaced the magazine. It is precision machined to fit in the bottom of the receiver.
The single shot solid bottom 3 screw actions are kind of their premium line and expensive, the 12FV's are as mentioned blind mags, standard actions, same as the 10's but with jewelled bolts, side bolt release, and slightly heavier barrel profiles.
You can easily throw a round in and shoot it one at a time, it's a push feed, no real need for a single shot follower.

Yup, I wanted to list mine with rings and scope for 9.
I have a 12 series LRPV , 3 screw , single shot , right bolt left port , 7 twist .223 and it has very little in common with the standard Savage rifles . It's a true target rifle and it's in the $1800 price range plus tax bare. So , pretty expensive . It's the most accurate out of the box factory rifle I've ever owned . Fantastic , tight smooth action that's flawless . Worth every penny . Shoots better then my full custom R700 .223 that was fully accurized with a Match barrel .
