SVT mag will fit but may not feed properly due to the fact that rim and body diameter of the 303 are somewhat less than the 7.62x54. Likely little problem to crimping-in the feed lips on an SVT mag; I run a 303 mag in my own SVT with little trouble.
The 555 was built FROM Finn capture SVTs, which accounts in part for the rarity of authentic Finn SVT rifles. Globe bought ALL that were surplused and went to work on them to produce a nice, quick-handling 303 semi-auto sporter.
BIG problem with the 555 is that the gas pistons were shortened radically, accounting for an abnormally-high port pressure. I have seen the wreckage of a 555 which slam-fired itself to death in an UNLOCKED condition; bolt velocity was so high that the Ejector actually cut a SLOT through the rims of the cartridges while the body actually straightened-out during the firing process.
Be aware of the problems, Friend, then solve them and you will have a great rifle!
You may be able to cut down port pressures by installing a set-screw at the new gas-port, then drilling through the set-screw to give yourself a REDUCED quantity of gas for the operating system. Remember, also, that the original SVT had an ADJUSTABLE gas system.... and it was transferred over, unchanged, to the 555.
I don't have a 555 myself, but thoughts run in the direction of very quick powders and light bullets. Slow powders and heavy bullets WILL give you more port problems than you want to try to solve.
What I DO have is the very LAST unmolested Finn-capture SVT that Globe had when they shut down their program. It is a Tula 1940 with the 6-port muzzle brake and it is an absolute alphabet as far as numbers are concerned; the Finns ran these critters hard. Fortunately, the chrome bore has lasted very well indeed and, despite all the abuse it has sustained, looks perfect today.
The 555 was a GREAT idea that did not QUITE succeed. Today they are rarities.
