Pretty lame to call this a gunsmithing issue. More cheap bustard thread.

So I have a Weatherby with a functioning recoil pad; however, it is old with deterioration of rubber to become sticky. Peel it off the faux sheepskin on inside of gun case, like cotton candy stuck to your hair.

Like I said.....che.....frugal bustard. Pad works despite being old. New replacement now adays I expect $70-100. What if anything would eliminate this.....lacquer thinner....varsol.... What would absolutely not work....melt the pad.

Just a matter of time until you end up with some ruined clothing, nowarningshot.

The answer is to contact Weatherby, and give them the serial number of the rifle. They should replace it if it is melting, rather than just getting worn out. Remington did that when a number of R3 pads with a bad batch melted.

They replaced on for me, and it arrived about two weeks after calling them.

Best,
Ted

If you don't like fuzz sticking to the pad, you will curse the day you heard of Limbsaver. If you have any sense of aesthetics, you will feel ill at the sight of a Limbsaver. You might as well put a gob of Double Bubble on the butt of your rifle. Pachmayr makes durable, effective, and good looking recoil pads. Choose one, which is appropriate for your Weatherby, from their lineup.

X2 Limbsavers suck. You can try block sanding the pad to remove the surface material most times the pad will come back nicely .
