Whats your favorite shotgun for upland hunting?

I try to as well this year have used both 12 & 16 gauge model 12 and my 828 o/u in 12.think I will take the 20 gauge model 12 out this weekend.It is mod. choke so can use steel and the ditches are starting to stash the odd duck

Mmm-m-m, a M12 in 20G... every so often, I come across of the Browning repro and think to myself that it's be fun to play with...

Going out tomorrow until Friday night for upland. Taking two guns. Each will be used one day. Going out next Friday, a different gun will get the call. Switching it up the following weekend and heading for the duck blinds at Lake St Clair. Two guns will go that weekend and both will get used.
The problem now is I almost have more guns than days I go hunting.

That Model 12 is sure in nice condition!
Love the Westley Richards too! It's easy to forget that the 28 bore goes back to the 1800's, always seems like a more recent thing.

Sweet little Westley Richards. With the pistol grip and cheek piece it’s stocked as a rifle. Any chance it’s a rebore from a rifle caliber? This was a fairly popular conversion in Britain because of the difficulty in licensing a rifle. An original gun from the late 1970’s, 1880’s and well into the 1890’s would be black powder proofed only, not intended for modern ammo unless suitably reproofed. Also, the English standard 28 gauge takes a 2 1/2” shell, very hard to find in 28.

Waiting for the letter from Westley Richards know very little about it, sat on the store counter for three months before i walked in and seen it. Every screw head is engraved and the case fits the shotgun perfect came with the wooden cleaning rod and everything even the cardboard card with information on cleaning and maintenance. Will purchase a team membership so i can post more pics up, I knew nothing about old shotguns before i bought it. I could recognize the quality and it locks up so tight, damascus steel barrels look so good in person, I’m very excited to get the info reading on there site about the first Anson Deely box lock shotgun looking at the pictures of that gun this one is is made close to the same time serial numbers are close within 40. Condition isn’t perfect but for its age i’d say it’s good and it feels so good in the hand. I am on the fence i have not started looking for reloading stuff yet, it is proofed for 2.5” BP, but would not be afraid to use it the fit and finish is better than anything i’ve seen.

Loading the 28 gauge for black powder or low pressure smokeless is not a big deal IMO ( I used to load for vintage 28's and still load for other gauges), and can be done very easily with very few if any machine tooling.
All you need is either brass or plastic cases, card wads, some silicone sealant, powder, primers and shot.
A small punch is used to knock out the spent primer, and a drift for installing the new one- you can even use a dowel of the right size if you wish.
Ann adjustable BP measure for the powder, and once you get the weight you need on a set of scales you adjust your measure for the shot as well.
An overshot wad is glued on top of thee charge if using the brass cases, or in the case of plastic or paper modern cases, a roll crimper.
Here is where a portable drill is needed if using a modern roll crimp bit, but vintage and repro hand crank roll crimpers can be had also.

The usual rotation is between the BSS Sporter 20ga Skeet1/Skeet2 with 28" pipes, that's my number 1 grouse gun. My wife usually takes the 1950 20ga Superposed which is IC/Mod. For pheasants and sharptails, I usually carry the Auto-5 Sweet Sixteen with mod choke, or recently I started to carry a Winchester Model 12 16 ga, also mod choke.
I'd love to add an M37 or another Mod 12 in 16ga or 20ga to the stable. But really, what I have covers all our bases.

Between the Superposed and the A-5 with the birds and your Drahthaar I can almost smell the paper hulls of seasons past !!!
