Alright, I might as well start. Argentine 1891 Mauser, tastefully sportered in the original flavour of 7.65 x 53.

This beautiful unit cost me 175 shipped...minus the magazine. Nurmrich helped out with the magazine.

My son is going up to Viking area tomorrow morning early hunting moose... might as well lend a hand. I've got a WT general tag
I'm wielding Big Old Bluenosers: 215 gr hard cast .312 dia ( Jethunters heavy 303 Br fodder) over 48 gr of 4831SC lit with a CCI 250 primer. Chrono verifies Waters math ( my bbl is touch shorter) at 2050 fps. PPU cases are beefy... got to tap them on the top of the press for about 10 sec's to get the powder settled... pretty close to full. At 1 turn in 9" them big bodied bullets ought to fly fairly true.
Who is next?

Nice handy looking rifle, wish you a successful hunt with it. I was planning on using my No.4 LB sporter in the sling bear opener I grabbed the Howa instead, next year I’ll bring it out again. It’s a pleasure to hunt with.

I plan to hunt and kill a deer with a different milsurp every year.
Starting next week with my original PU sniper. Next will be my type 99 arisaka.

Buddy of mine is going to use his father in laws "bubba'd 303" for the first time on a mule doe draw. His FIL claimed it was his personal WW11 weapon that he carried thru the Dutch campaign but that is unverifiable as he died a year before buddy acquired the rifle from the estate.

OP, those 1891 Mausers are smooth as oiled glass and usually have very nice triggers.

The 7.65x53 cartridge is easily the equivalent of the 308Win with similar weight bullets.

I have a couple in the same chambering, one is Argentine and the other is Peruvian.

I've never used cast lead in either of them. I don't shoot them very much.

The cases I have on hand are Norma, from close to 25 years ago. Most are still new

They really like the old 175 grain Oryx bullets.

The cast loads you're showing will do the job just fine on anything in North America.

Good luck on your hunt with your son

Most shooters do not realize the quality that is inherent in the model 1891 Mausers.

Used by militaries all over the world, including Belgium/Argentina/Peru etc.

Soaked in all sorts of history, in and out of conflicts.

Will be using my Norwegian Krag this weekend in 6.5x55 of course. Didn't use either of my 1891 Mausers this year, but maybe next year.

All I've ever used have been sportered milsurps, although I've never used an unsported iron sighted milsurp. For me, my fun and nostalgia isn't worth wounding a deer. I don't shoot 1/2 MOA at 300 yds like some claim with their unmolested No4 MkI.

In the past I have taken deer with unmolested; Yugo M48 8mm, Norwegian K98k 30-06, German K98K 8mm, Portuguese M904/39 8mm, Swede M96 6.5mm, Steyr M95 8x56R, Mosin M44, SKS, FR7 7.62, and bubbatized Longbranch #4 303 and Spanish 93 7mm.

I've taken the Steyr M95 on a goat hunt without success and had the SKS in hand when the dogs were on a Grizzly. Took the Yugo M48 on an unsuccessful Moose hunt and hunted Elk with the German K98k.

I've been meaning to use the Long M95 on a Elk.

Well I haven't been out hunting this year for a number of reasons, but one of my early moose hunts was undertaken with a 100% uncut P 14 rifle in 303 British. Good thing I was reasonably strong back then because that rifle got pretty heavy by the end of the day. I also on occasion took a Chilean Model 95 Mauser carbine in 7x57 into the bush a few times, that one was much easier to carry especially in heavy cover.

This upside down effect makes me more crazy than I am already!! Ha ha ha

I got out for deer rifle season. Good times. All matching numbers where they count. Now if I could just prevent falling all over them slippery leaves covering the rocks, I’ll be okay to hunt more. Ha ha ha.

Cheers and good luck out there. Tag OUT!! :D

Excellent choice of cartridge.

!
Lucky you Barney! I have a locker full of milsurps and not allowed to use them - I'm living in a shotgun-only WMU so I'm hoping some hapless doe will blunder within 20 yards of me down in the cedar swamp!

Just killed this one this morning.
50y, Shot twice, she went down but, get up, didn't take any chance.

With my Enfield 1941 sniper repro. Did the job fine. I enjoyed to hunt with it better than with my mosin PU.

I prefer the quiet lever safety and the total length is more friendly!
