Nature has a way of sorting the strong swimmers from the weak swimmers. I don't like the thought of an animal suffering unnecessarily, but manhandling a soaking wet exhausted wild animal into your fishing boat is another way of saying, 'Mother Nature doesn't know her place.' What about those sharp hooves and panicked spasms of self-protection? Would those same guys jump into the water to untie the ropes if the deer went overboard and couldn't swim?
Every spring soft-touchs venture out onto melting river and lake ice to rescue stranded pets and wild animals. Fire Department personnel then have to go rescue stranded humans. Humans can be so selfish and impulsive that they put themselves and others at greater risk.
